C.R.K.T. makes awesome folders. S.O.G.s folders are really good.Smith&Wessons swat series, Benchmade,Masters of Defense, all are good quality.

Talk about a tough question! There are lots of great folding knives out there. I am assuming you are talking about a rather substantial folding knife and not a pocket knife so I will wade in with a Puma. I like the Whitetail Hunter model that is no longer imported into the United States but can be found in Germany. Just my opinion, but I think they're worth the extra cost over some really good less expensive knives.

The very best would probably be a custom made folder from TiPi Knifeworks in Columbus, GA, but that would also be mighty expensive.
I know everyone has their own preferences, but I believe it would be hard to find a better folding knife than a Buck M-110 Folding Hunter. If you want a light knife, a Columbia River Knife & Tool K.I.S.S. is a good one, they are available in three or four sizes.

Cheaper knives can definitely fold back. I have scars to prove it But with higher quality ones i wouldnt worry. They use a mechanical device to lock back, if your truly worried go with a fixed blade. I carry a variety of Kershaw knives they are not as good as maybe benchmade but are good knives and i have been carrying them for 6 years havent had one close on my hand. Granted i pretty much only use them for cutting, maybe stabbing something like a soda can. But whenever i go camping, hiking, or hunting i always bring a fixed blade for that reason.

regardless of the knife or cost it will still be a personal choice. i got tired of knives going dull too fast.i tested a new knife on skinning a hog.it worked great and was still sharp at the end.i used the buck alpha hunter with a guthook.you can pay more on other knives but this one will be great for you.
