because it challenges their belief that theirs is the only true faith. They think that addressing a hypothetical question means that they risk losing their immortal souls. They can't risk it, in their minds, so they reject they premise outright.

in my opinion, it is narrow minded and cowardly.

OK so Zeus is the "real" god. In that case he must be the creator of the universe. He must be the giver of life and all good things. He must have been the one I was thinking of when I was thanking God for all my blessings.
So now what ? will He forgive me? Will he understand that I didn't mean to worship the wrong God? After all I only made my decision to worship the wrong one ( Jesus) based on some faulty information I was given by some people who were very benevolent and caring of me. I didn't mean to be wrong. What will the "real" God do about all this.?

If Zeus is forgiving and understanding, then I will know I was right about at least some things. And if he is not?..... Check the answer I gave to " Bronse nose all " I was the 83rd answer. Who ever heard of 83 answers!

The heart of the issue is the nature of PROTESTansim the root is PROTEST, when the movmen begin it started by tossing out the practices it beleived led to the courupsion in the Roman Catholic church. For example prayer for the dead, in the Protestant mind this had to be stopped becuse becuse it tied to purgatory which lead to indulgances. However the Orhtoodx church prays for the dead and has neither indulgances nor purgatory do to a differant understanding. Each subsiquent generatation of Protestant denomination had sought to differiantiate it's self from Rome. The Anglicans and Lutherans for example were the closest to Rome in terms of practice and theology then the calvanist and anabaptist further, not becuse of any better undserstanding of the early church but rather becuse of a a consitant view of -Rome. the early church came from a helenistic/semetc culture which western Christians over time have diverged from greatly to better understand the practices and faith one must go back to semetic and Greek Christianity. You can find Christians in the middle east notably the Syriacs who can understand Aramaiac with little problem. The Eastern Lituturgies of Saint Basil, Saint John Crysostosm and James are the oldest in use so they are shapped by the early days of the Church.

there is a mistake in ur reasoning, there is really one God out there and all the others are idols. some of them out there may have been based on God but that doesnt make that thing a god now does it. and that will never happen. sure thats a hypothetical question but i isnt realistic due to the fact that God will actually reveal himself to those who seek him. and even all these false gods and idols supposedly allow themselves to be revealed. so if zeus, hypothetically, was the real god ( which he isnt) why hasnt he sent prophets or give humans the words to write some sort of bible thing. why hasnt he revealed himself. its cause he is fake. lke all the other ones out there. thats why this question is sort of invalid.
but just to make u happy i will answer it the way u waant me to. if that were to happen i dont think anyone will be punished cuase zeus never did anything to make anyone belive in him. plus the fact that greek mythology involves many numrous god, i doesnt make any sense that all the others or gone and that zeus is the only one. does that answer it for u?

Because many Christians have never had to question their faith in a serious way. With Christianity as the prevalent religion in America, why would they?

(well, aside from the answer that questioning one's faith strengthens it...)

As I've mentioned before, I don't think it's an issue of the right God or the wrong God, I think it's an issue of what we believe about the same God. There are complementary bits of truth in just about every religion whose basic principle is to do good. This makes me think that God is universal and appears in every culture/religion, but everyone sees Him differently and has varying levels of accuracy in their views of Him. To put it simply, and not meaning any disrespect to other faiths, I believe Catholicism has the highest level of accuracy of our world's religions. I'm confident in my beliefs, and if I'm wrong then I'm wrong. The end.

It doesn't lessen my faith.

If it turned out I was wrong, I hope that whatever power that may be would care more about whether someone tried to live a good life or not rather than what they chose to beleive in.

I'd beg for forgiveness, and then challenge Zeus to a 'Feat of Strength' after the 'Airing of Grievances', of course.

To simply answer the question: then my faith is in vain.
The detail to the problem is: do people choose without seeking the TRUTH? Unfortunately the answer to that is probably YES.
When you know the truth, then you can stand firm in whatever tries to 'blow your house down'.

If I died and found out that my god was wrong. I don't know what I'd do, or what would become of me.

That's the only answer anyone can really give.
