BECAUSE THE TEACHERS HAVE NOT BEEN TAUGHT HOW TO TEACH NORMAL/ACTIVE/RAMBUNCTIOUS CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! therefore, they demand the parent have their child drugged to the point of the child having no brain function at all and sit in a chair like a wet noodle.
All a parent has to do is change the child's diet and this will change their behavior dramatically. NO JUNK FOODS, NO MEDICATIONS AND NO SWEETS.
And guess what else............. the doctors are in on it too because they just want to line their pockets with more money from every prescription they write.
So yes, the schools are DEFINATELY part of the problem.
The up and coming students, who want to be teachers, need to find a college that will teach them how to teach normal, active rambunctious children and NOT freak out and demand they be medicated.

I think diagnosing ADD/ADHD is an easy way out for a lot of problems. It's only now a days kids (and adults) are getting diagnosed left and right. I think it has a lot to do with lifestyle on the most part. People are eating crappier food. They're (not a jab at you, this is just in general), loading their kids up on sugar and un-natural fats and preservatives. They're watching more TV, and playing so many hours of video games that could induce a seizure with all the flashing lights!
My boyfriend's daughter has ADD. Both of her parents give her soda,candy,cookies,ice-cream,piles of lo-mein (she's as thin as a rail!), whatever she wants to eat, no matter whats in it. And on top of that there's no structure for her. Neither one of them will take the time to sit down with her and try to get her to focas on anything, and to teach her how to calm herself down, etc... She's going into the second grade and doesn't know how to read! The school obviously needs to be the primary teacher, since that's what they're for, but apparently from I was told, her mother will not help her either.
So it's a variety of reasons. Switch up the diets and activities.

Yes, it is a problem. One big concern as a parent should be why does the school get a certain amount of money for each child that is put on medication for ADD & ADHD, kind of a kick back, could it be the drug companies are behind this. Remember, its all about money. Also, diet has so much to do with the childs behavior, usually too much sugar. and fast food. Don't give up on this, do some research, get with the other parents and learn all you can, knownledge is power. These kids are our future. Don't let them down.

It is a label put on children that are "difficult" and may have trouble concentrating. Most of the time if parents cutback on sugar, cut out caffine and elimate reddye from the childs diet they see a big change. There are a lot of things that can cause signs of ADHD including hypoglycemia, diabetes, thyroid problems, allergies, asthma...the list goes on. But instead of getting tests run to rule out medical problems Dr's are more quick to label ADHD or ADD and put the child on meds, which usually doesn't help. It is a major problem, i hate it. They tried to label my son ADHD and bipolar but i eliminated the red dye and stuff from the diet and made sure his blood levels were taken care of (he is hypoglycemic) and got other tests run. I found out by taking the time and pushing the Dr's that he has hyper-reflexia diplegia in both legs which means he can't sit still for leg because he gets twitches in his legs. That affects his concentration. So all that and they wanted to say ADHD. Once a child is labeled the teachers usually roll their eyes and go "oh great another one"

Because kids these days are just plunked in front of the TV, and that requires about a 0 attention span. It jumps from 5 minute chunk of TV show to 30 second commercial and another 30 sec commercial, etc.
An attention span is something that needs to be worked. But no one seems to "have the time" to read a book to their child for more than 10 minutes. And no one "has the time" to sit down and have a nice 30 minute family dinner. Nope, everyone eats in front of the TV.
Since at home a child doesn't need more than a 10 minute attention span, a child won't have more than a 10 min attention span at school.

Anytime a child acts like a child doctors think they need to drug them. My niece is not ADHD, but her teacher wanted her drugged because she wasn't paying attention. It turns out she has a form of dyslexia. She can read fine, but writes things backwards a lot. My sister has the same problem, so most likely it is genetic. Also, with a lot of the children that actually DO have it, it has to do with things that their mothers did while they were pregnant with them. My mom is a smoker and even though she cut back while pregnant, it still caused problems. All 4 of us kids have ADD. It has been shown that smoking during pregnancy, or being around someone that is smoking can cause the blood vessels leading to the placenta to constrict, causing the oxygen levels to drop, thus causing learning problems, ADD, ADHD.

so that the school doesnt have to deal with misbehaved kids they want them all to be perfect so they wont have to make an effort. and there is alot of that going around i had a big problem with it too. my son was diagnosed with it when he was 3 and i wouldnt let them do nothing to him until he started k-grade for the second time and i promise u it helped my baby and he has such good grades now and he still continues to struggle. but ive seen alot of kids honestly that really didnt need it but they get medicine and stuff and i think its also because the school gets more money that way too.

I agree to a point. I think the problem is with teachers/parents just does not want to deal with it so they put the child on meds. It is something that needs to be thought about before putting the child on the med. My daughter is ADHD she is on med BUT it was something that was put off to see if we could fix the problem without med. We have seen such a big improvement in her grades at school and her confidence. But like I said it was not just a quick decision.

First of all, western societies are becoming very anti-child. So medicalizing children's behaviour is part of a trend that makes all children's behaviours to be improper as a rule, and children as things that are barely tolerable.
Children and their families are eating mountains of pure unadulterated crap. Chemicals, dyes, perservatives, salicates, plastic based food substitutes, msg and msg analogues and other excitotoxins, sugars, processed pap fried in processed yuck. Food grown on ground that has been raped of any useful minerals, and the food sprayed with pesticides and msg that parents don't even bother to wash off.
It is so pervasive, that people actually think they are eating "okay" or eating junk in moderation, when they are feeding their child some poison everyday that makes them go apeshit. Then the poor kids get punished for having their minds and bodies poisoned on some dye that they are being fed by their parents.

I have to agree. Its being abused to the point that any disapline problem is considered possible ADHD. Its ridiculous. I know there are sever cases and that need professional treatment but there are also some kids that need to be talked to and have it explained that you know they have alot of energy and its hard to do what you are told but you have to learn it now or it will just get harder. And yes a small child can understand that.
Another trend seems to be the amount of people on mood altering drugs...antidepressants and such. Never learning to control your mind and body is one reason people feel they need them. and again Iknow some people need them...but sooo many now a days..
