I can't believe how my understanding of Science and other philosophies have led me to understanding that the world is bigger than all of us. It has opened up my world and left me with only the guilt that I put on myself for being a jerk, rather than carrying around the worlds problems. I was a hardcore christian. You don't even want to know. Most christians couldn't even handle it, but I've been an atheist for about a year now, and I am absolutely amazed that I am vilified, and discriminated for it. When I was a xian, I thought we were the biggest targets. Not so! I am very comfortable like I said with my beliefs or lack thereof, but I now know that Xians can never say that they have it rough because of they're beliefs, I now know that. I think it would be great for there to be an open dialogue (non-combative) between us all, but it can't happen, a belief is something very strong that people take instant offense to when challenged usually. Everyone has to figure it on they're own!

The problem is most people are never given the chance to "figure it out" on their own, because they are drilled with indoctrination from childhood, and by the time they are in their 20s, they have already been brainwashed to the point of childlike dependency on the religion, where they can't even imagine what it would be like to live without it.

Once one is in that state, it is nearly impossible to break free from it. Consider yourself lucky, my friend.

I am not sure this is a question, but I will respond to your comments. People feel very insecure when someone does not acknowledge the god they believe in and even more so when no god is acknowledged at all.
It is amazing that we forget about our own religious/spiritual practice and choose to judge others for not seeing things our way.
We should send everyone our love and resist judging anyone. I am sorry that you have had a hard time of it. Just don't expect people to understand, and you will be over half way there.

Welcome to the dark side. The agnostics have a better dental plan, but we have cookies.

I would love to, and try to have non combative debates. As you can see, it is usually fundie Xians that are the most combative. I rarely see a Jew or Muslim post : "Why are all atheists going to hell?"
