Yes, it is both. Hitler didn't care about religion. He was creating a master race and was weeding out what he thought were lesser races...including Jews. There are people who describe themselves as "non-practicing Jews" meaning they are ethnically Jewish but not religiously so. Judaism is the traditional religion of the ethnically Jewish people. Almost all religious Jews are either ethnically Jewish or are married to an ethnic Jew, because Judaism does not encourage conversion (other than in the case of marriage) - it is the religion of a certain group of people, and those outside that group need not concern themselves with it.

Religion, being Jewish is a faith being Israeli is Ethnicity. You can be a Christian borned in Israel even though both of your parents are of the Jewish religion. You aren't consided a Jew but are a Israeli Christian decendent of Jews. It's very complicated.

Judaism is more than a religion. It is a way of life.
We Jews come in all colors and from all over the world.
As for Israelis, most of them are Jewish, and some are Christian, Armenian, Arab, Muslim, Druzi, etc...

It is a religion... but people often even myself say Jew is an ethnicity because its easier to describe to someone what area your ancestry is from instead of being general and saying Arabic.

Her nationality is Israeli. She is an Israeli Jew and her religion is Judaism. Her race is human.

My nationality is American; I am an American Jew. My religion is Judaism. My race is human.
