The military has many oppertunities. Many in a support roll that will allow you to be out of direct combat.

Military members do not blow away dudes because of their religion. They blow away dudes because they are enemy combatants posing a threat, engaged in a hostile act, or poses an intent to commit an hostile act against friendly forces, property, or innocent civilians.

Rules of engagement exist so that we can clearly define what to do in certain situations. The rules of engagement are strictly followed.

As for your interest in Joining the military there are many great advantages of doing so. The benifits far outweigh the negative aspects of serving in the military.

Some things to do before you contact a recruiter.

You obviously have an internet connection. I suggest the following.

Go to each Branch website

Army
Navy
Air Force
Marine Corps
Coast Guard (Yes there are Coast Guard serving in Iraq and Kuwait as well as other places)

Do some research on what kind of jobs you are interested in doing.

(The United States Army is the only branch of the service in which you can sign up for a Specific Military Occupational Specialty.)

Seek out military members in those jobs that you are interested in and ask them questions.

Talk to military members that you know about their expieriences.

Remember when you do contact a recruiter you are the person in charge. The recruiter serves you. If you feel like that branch of the military is not for you, tell the recruiter that you are no longer interested.

If you decide to join the military and are taken to the MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) YOU ARE UNDER NO OBLIGATION TO JOIN THE MILITARY. Remember that the recruiter can not force you to Join.

If you get to the point of sitting with a Career Counseler You can still leave. YO should negotiate your terms of joining the military. If they can not get you what you want (MOS, Duty Station, Extra Schools such as airborne, ranger, air assault, departure date, and even the proper authorized enlistment bonus) you still have the option to leave.

READ YOUR CONTRACT. MAKE SURE YOU COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND IT. IF YOU DO NOT ASK,THEN ASK AGAIN.

Many people that say their recruiter lied to them are not being completely honest with themselves. Most of the time they failed to read their contract or verify with their career counselor what the terms of their enlistment are.

REMEMBER The career counselor is not a recruiter. He or SHE is there to assist you in choosing an MOS and finding you a school date amoung other terms of your contract.

If you feel uncomfortable at any time make sure you tell someone. Do not be afraid. Joining the military is a big committment and one that is not to be taken lightly.

ALWAYS remember that Joining the military is a good thing.

Becoming a member of the United States Armed Forces is an honorable and rewarding thing to do. You will be a better person for it in the end.

If you have any questions at all please feel free to ask.

the military does not designate a bad guy because of religion creed, race, color, ethnicity, or the such. an enemy is someone who has or done bad things against this counrtry or its allies. if you dont have the guts to fight for your family and peers then im sure they have a spot for you in the peace corps. if you did join the military and then refuse going on deployment, it will not be easy on the rest of your career. a true military man will tell you that the military is about much more than yourself, its the men who surround you

If you join the armed forces, you don't have much of a choice where they send you or who you are going to be fighting. If you feel that you can't, in good conscience, fight in any and all conflicts that your government may send you into, don't join the service.

I commend you on your desire to join the armed services; however I am unclear as to your question... Is it that you do not want to protect and/or defend yourself and your unit against someone that retaliates due to religion? There are so many reasons as to why people fight and yet.. there are so many reasons as to why people defend.

You have to enlist if you feel compelled to enlist.. feel it in your heart. If you are enlisting to avoid something, know that it will always be there.

War is ugly and as much as I wish it did not exist - it does. We need to defend what we have, what we have built and what we regard as valuable. I am not talking about money..

If you feel the need, please enlist; however if you do not.. Don't.

I wish you well!
