I think you give us too much credit, especially if you consider the poltical elections. Reagan (a 2nd rate actor who carries 49 out of 50 states) and Nixon and Bush and Kennedy.
We're at least reacationaries.
If 60% of the people were free thinkers, Ralph Nader would be President!

But what is a "free thinker?" Many believers are free thinkers. Some just follow the letter of the law without really caring why; that in my opinion is a mindless believer. But some make an informed decision to follow their faith. Whether you were raised in a religion or converted, if you make a conscious choice to follow it, that in my opinion is free thinking.
Atheists can be mindless believers (or followers might be a better word) too; some are just atheist because they don't want to bother with God.
But I would agree with the 60% free thinkers/30% believers/10% undecided thing.

As according to the website I sourced below, about 14% are athiests/agnostics/non religious, with the rest following a religions (76% christianity).
However, the website is also an athiest one, so it probably has a bias.
I think living in the US (and maybe other places as well) is a little misleading, because lots of people don't practice a religion or have one that plays a big part in their life, yet still consider themselves to believe in a god. But statistically, the vast majority are believers.

I suspect that there are 90-95 percent believers and 5-10 percent free thinkers.

Although people may think they're free thinkers watch what happens when they're life is threatened or they develop serious health problems. Watch how fast free thinking goes out the door. Instinctively they start praying to God. Humility strikes fast and with deadly accuracy. Go to death row and see how many free thinkers you have there.

Believers are free thinkers. If you don't live in Christ's light you are a slave. You are a slave to sin. Atheists and all those who don't believe are slaves. Free your closed mind!!! And believers are the majority child. Lucky for us all (believers and non-believers), Atheists are the minority. Try reading, learn about your world and the state of things about you and maybe one day you too can be free.

Your question cannot be answered the way it is phrased because it assumes that believers are not free thinkers. Your question also cannot be answered because it does not specify what a believer is. I can assume you mean believer in Jesus, but what about a believer in allah or budda? Learn to think freely and intelligently, and then reask your question. A good place to learn free, intelligent and critical thinking is college. Perhaps you've never heard of college, but you may enjoy it.

I'd say 80-90% of the people say that they are believers. Heck, its easy to go along with the pack and avoid confrontation and the stigma of being an "unbeliever".Doesnt cost anything to SAY you believe.
Does that 80-90% of the people that say they believe, live by the word of the bible as actual Christians?
The majority of believers are just giving lip service and hedging their bets.
