Some guy said the following earlier:

There isn't a shred of evidence for the "thousands of gods" so I don't believe in them.

To extrapolate from this that there is therefore not even one God is an illogical non-sequitor - worse yet, there is plenty of credible evidence for the existence of the God of the Jews and Christians. Care to discuss it? Drop me an email.

Why do people who have *proof* almost always wanna take their rants to private?

"To extrapolate from this that there is therefore not even one God"

But they're not extrapolating that. What they are saying is that in the absence of evidence, the only logical stance to take is the assumption of absence (which is not a positive assertion of absence, just a stance like "until there's proof, I'm not going to act like it exists"). Every Christian does this--they live under the assumption that every god other than theirs does not exist. But of course, that is illogical, since the god Christians DO believe in has as much of a lack of evidence as all the others.

Key difference. The Gods of Pagan mythology and Polytheism were Gods that corresponded to nature. Examples would include Zeus as the God of Thunder, Ares the God of war, Apollo, God of the Sun. In Babylonian mythology you have Tiamat, God of Chaos, Ea, God of the Earth, Marduk, God of the skies. The God monotheism transcends nature. So as St Thomas Aquinas puts it, God is not one being, or one entity among many. Rather, he is the Pure Act of Being itself. As such, its silly to try and attempt to uses the natural sciences to verify or falsify God's existence. God's existence is a philosophical, not a scientific, question. @David Rea, chill. Its Yahoo Answers. Second, your assertion "Everytime God interacts with the natural world, it is detectable by the natural sciences" is a half true statement. Assuming God exists, the results of his existence are detectable through creation. And that can be analyzed by the natural sciences. that is partly true. But here is the mistake your making. The natural sciences are restricted to the natural world, and the natural world only. Assuming God exists, the natural sciences can only analyze the effects of God's actions in creation, and no the source. It would be like asking, can you study the mechanics of how an engine functions in order to fully determine who created it? The answer would be no. You would have to go to the car shop to figure that out. So chill, and relax. No need to be such a blowhard on the internet Also, if the only way to provide evidence for something is through the Natural Sciences, as you seem to be implying, then where is the evidence to verify or falsify that assumption? You just end up in a self refuting tautology

Joe to answer that question, I would like to say that I have some proof and will only take much of it to private because first of all, not everything should be given on this forum for people to pick apart. Second, you cannot include pictures in the discussion. Some people, would rather have a personal conversation with you than an open discussion with the entire world of cyber space.

Religion is based on faith. Faith has no proof. Get your arguments straight.

If someone claims there are a 1000 gods, you cannot disprove it. How do you propose to disprove it? You cannot prove or disprove a negative assertion.

If I claim Osiris exists, as documented in the Egyptian hieroglyphs, that's written down. How do you disprove it? It's carved in stone, no less (pun intended).

If I claim Zeus, Hera and the Olympian gods exist, how do you disprove it. There are tales of the Greek Gods that go on forever?

If I claim Thor exists, how do you disprove it?

If I claim Saturn exists how do you disprove it?

If I claim the Spagetti Monster exists, how do you disprove it?

If I claim [insert your diety] exists, how do you disprove it?

If you say your god exists, how does it prove or not prove that other gods don't exist?

You can't. It's faith and by definition, there is no proof for one god or for a million gods. You can have as many as you want.

Q. What do cults, religion and myth have in common?

A. Time. All religions start out as cults, if it is not killed off (literally in a lot of cases), they become established as a religions, and as time goes they turn into myths.

It's all a myth. Just give it time.

I am not going to rant, only to point out that the Greeks of the Classical period had about 15 Major Gods and at least 40 minor ones. AND this was in only ONE city of the Classical world.

Historically there is documentation that Rome had HUNDREDS of Gods, and currently there is documentation that in India Hindus worship Hundreds more....

The claim of there being "thousands of Gods" is probably NOT overblown at all as there are still modern worshippers of those Gods.

Huh… I think you are missing the point. Life is not about proving Gods existence? You may think it is and may be your neighbor does too, but in truth it’s not necessary. The problem lies with the many people who try to convince people to believe in their God. So… tune them out. You don’t have to believe or listen to them. However, if you argue with them, then that’s your fault for getting involved. And to prove God, get real, that’s impossible.

The experience happens within us, in our mind. Not one person can ever explain in any language the feeling they experience when they commune with God. Such thoughts and feelings degrade when put into words or on paper. Union with God is unexplainable.

To explain his existence, that’s not my job or anyone else’s, it’s God’s job. He does this at his own accord, because he indwells each of us. All one needs to do is to begin listening. But don’t worry, many of us tune him out and go about a materialistic life.

People have the right to believe what they want. Who are we to say whether it's right or wrong. The word God was created by man. The WORD. It's a WORD.
