Hello aron,
Each funeral home may be different in some what of a way but generally it's the custom/ culture that the loved one require, ask for.
The loved ones will chose the clothing and footwear. (Some Funeral homes don't put of footwear)
The body is laid on a stainless steel table, where the body is washed down, shampooed and then hair shinned. Then like you are I helping one get dressed attend to the Dressing of the deceased. When clothes are on then they do the facial foundation/ makeup and tend to the hair. Ever so gentle.
These morticians specialize in their field of work and treat the deceased with loving care as if it was their own loved one whom has passed on.
My son worked 2 years in a funeral home & cornors service.

Family or friends will select clothing that they feel is appropriate for the person to wear, and give it to the funeral director/undertaker. The actual dressing of the body is usually done by the undertaker.
The type of clothing can be really anything that the family or friends think is best ~ some people like to see their loved one in a nice suit, for others they feel the person might best be remembered in their favourite leisure wear.
It's really a matter of personal choice. The undertaker/funeral director can usually help with suggestions if the family need some guidance.
Best wishes :-)

They dress them up in a suit and tie with shoes and socks or a dress if they are a women. This is mostly to present them as if they were walking into a heavenly place for welcome. This for the living, not for the dead when the casket is open. When you have a funeral, it would not be right not to have them dressed properly. The mortician dresses them up so they look alive, but sleeping. The mummys were rapped and then dressed in Gold and fine linen on the outside if they were kings or wealthy.

Are you wondering how people can stand to do it, perhaps becuase you think it might be uncomfortable? I've never done it, but I've actually heard that it's a nice experience, a sort of act of service that honors the deceased.

Usually casual or semi-formal, though I have seen them in jeans, formal gowns and tuxedos. The best thing, don't have to worry about matching shoes!! peace

The undertaker will dress them. If they had a uniform job (military, police, fireman etc) they may wish to be buried in their uniform, otherwise smart casual is best.

If you mean how the technique is done , they have to break the bones to relieve the stiffness of the rigamortis so the limbs are limber. as far as what they dress them in is up to the relatives unless it is stated in the will.
