I have found a better job and I would like to give my current employer my two-week notice. I have been told it is more professional to write a letter than to just tell the employer in person. What should I include in this letter?

I would put the date I was leaving, and nicely say how much I've enjoyed working for the old company. (-: Even if I had to stretch it. I would reassure my employer that I'd be on hand for the next two weeks to help train a replacement.

You don't really need to say where you are going after this, or why you are leaving. Try not to burn any bridges. If you leave with a friendly letter, and good feelings, you will be able to use this employer for future references, and for networking.

I would write a letter AND tell the employer in person -- maybe as I hand the letter in.
