I have to go shopping for seven people tommarow and I will have about $300.00. I need basics such as flour, butter, milk, sugar, eggs etc...I am not picky and I just don't want to run out of food again we've been out of food for a few days now and there are three kids living with us it is very frustrating. Where can I find a reliable list of groceries and recipies so that we can make it?

Oh, man, yeah, you need to get on the ball if you've got kids to feed.

The best thing to do is make a list of the basics you absolutely need. Then get some flyers (advertisements in the newspaper) for various stores, and figure out where the cheapest stuff is. I'd go to two stores, if you have time, but don't go crazy and go to six or seven -- what you save in money, you might waste in gas.

Then, fill out the rest of list with bargains from the stores -- make sure you are going to use them!

I find the best way to do this is to start with a menu for the week. I take a typing sheet, and fold it in half, then half again, and half one more time so I have eight rectangles. I top seven of the squares with the day of the week, and the last one I leave for my shopping list. As I write down the menu for breakfast, lunch and supper, I note the things I need to buy on the shopping list square. Then I go out and buy stuff on the shopping list.

For two weeks, you'll need two squares.

Do you have any neighbors that would be happy to give you some fresh veggies -- tomatoes or zucchini? That would help pad out the list.

In the states, rice and beans are very cheap, so you might want to plan meals around that.

So you don't run out of food again, sit down every Sunday and make up a menu.

BTW, women's magazines (I think Quick and Simple) often have weekly recipes and a shopping list all written out for you. You might try the Quick and Simple website.

First, go on the web and search for a site with a list of "basic pantry staples" which is food you can use all the time like flour, sugar, eggs, tomato sauce, etc. Then search for some budget friendly recipes. Next, take your list and go to a discount store like Grocery Outlet, Food 4 Less, or something like that, or even the dollar store. Don't go to the big chain stores like Safeway as they are very expensive, and don't use coupons as these don't save any real money.
Go home and prepare some of the recipes you have found and you should have enough to last you 2 weeks easy (as long as everyone doesn't raid the fridge).
It's a lot of work, but after you do it the first time, it will get easier after that and you will be proud of yourself for accomplishing such a goal.

first of all be carefull to not buy premade things unless its a bargian, the other day saw a women buying premade pancake with sausage sandwiches for 5 dollars ,i showed her the pkg of premade sausage pattys with about 20 in it for 300 and a pkg of premade pancakes for 300 for 24 and told her she could warm them and put together and have 12 sandwiches with many more sausage pattys for other meals and it was even cheaper than buying bulk sausage, btw you can find these at walmart in bags in the center freezer by the meats..and the pancakes too... buying this to make pots of is best as well ,,like a pot of chilli ,,there is a bag of chicken legs and thighs at walmart for 300 you can cook these and make soup or noodles and fry some as well ,,make a list of groceries from a menu so you know for sure you have food for 2 weeks,
mac and cheese with chilli in it is good filling and cheap
buy veggies to round out the meals ,and canned fruits
go to the local food bank to suppliment the food you have on hand
do a lot of comparison shopping
check sales and buy some things in bulk if you can like tp and canned goods
check items like tp somtimes its cheaper to buy better if you get large rolls and you dont have to use as much due to it being so thin

go to the bread store for bread instead of buying at the grocerie store,
