which numbers are free and which are not please give examples like 800,900,866, etc.

Not all 800 numbers are toll free. The toll free numbers are 800, 866, 877, and 888. Some people/companies have tried to fool people into thinking 801 and other similar numbers are toll free. They aren't. 900 numbers are definitely NOT free. They are commonly used for sex lines and other high cost phone businesses.

800 series are all tole free for the caller. 900 series are charged to the caller. The 8 and the 9 are the determining factors. The only exception is 911 and 211, 411 however, is a pay call.
