You will need a checking/savings account. All pay is direct deposit. If you do not have one, when you get to Great Lakes, they will have you fill out paperwork and get you set up with Navy Federal Credit Union. Most Navy people have Navy Federal Credit Union for their banking needs.

You need to request a Visa debit/credit card for easier shopping and bill paying. If you are stationed on a ship, you will definitely need a card.

I would suggest you signing up today so you have your account numbers when they ask for it. They have 24 hour phone service. Not automated, but real, live people that you can talk to.

Good luck to all of you leaving for basic.

If you don't have a bank account, they will probably suggest you open an accnt with the Navy Federal Credit Union. But you will need a bank account they don't give out paychecks, everything is directly deposited in your account.

My husband just graduated from boot camp and is now in corps school. They told him that he could either go to the bank there in town and open a checking account that they will directly deposit his money in on the 1st and the 15th or they would set him up with an account at basic. To make is easier on you, go to your local bank and open 1 their. I would do it now before you go to boot camp that way you will get your bebit card. Your mom and dad or who ever is going to be there when you graduate can give you your card then so you can have your money. This helped us out alot. Good luck in Great Lakes and do be a smart ***. My husband learned that in the first 2 days. LOL I thank you for going in to help support our counrty. Good luck

Since you're new to credit with would explain the high interest rate Also if you're under 25 years of age you'll pay more for your insurance. It's a 50/50 chance you can cancel the deal but you have nothing to lose by trying. If they do agree, make sure you get it in writing
