I find that most answers come from those who think like politicians. They don't really answer the question asked. God wants us to learn about him by living the rules he set down for us. In doing so we can only live as he intended. Thinking about it how could we not end up a very happy fullfilled person. The rules are strict but have you ever known a satisfied person that was not fun or having fun in life! If we had kept him first in our lives we would not have all these religious doubts as I fully believe he would still be in touch.

You've got both strict and fun involved. If it comes to how you treat the things of God, then you might want to be strict about it. Not that it can't be fun but there are times when you really need to think about what you say, and what you do.
As far as being alone with God when things aren't particularly stressful for us, it can be fun. Opening up yourself enough to God and you could find yourself laughing at times at the circumstances. That's for those people who have been through a lot.

Probably the way you learn about anyone. Take some time to research who God is. Develop a relationship through communication (prayer & meditation (listening)). Form a personal bond, not based on the gossip (or opinions) of others. Practice gratitude.
And remember God knows you. Be the type of loving entity that God would want to spend time with.

The ONLY way that we can learn about God is through HIS HOLY WORD THE BIBLE.
Read and study it every day. A good place to start is to read one chapter of Proverbs each day. They are short and VERY meaningful.
GBY!
P.S. And join a study group in a church of your choice.
Rom 10:17 So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

God has made himself abundantly clear in Creation.
He has told us his plan for Salvation in the Bible.
He gave us his only Son to show us the way.
Every religion in the world has some understanding of God.
Even those which deny his existence.

Christans evidently want us to believe that god wants us to learn about him through the foggy memories of ignorant and illiterate peasants.

Through a sincere, humble study of his Word:
1 My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding,
3 and if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD gives wisdom,
and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds victory in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
9 Then you will understand what is right and just
and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Discretion will protect you,
and understanding will guard you.
12 Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men,
from men whose words are perverse,
13 who leave the straight paths
to walk in dark ways,
14 who delight in doing wrong
and rejoice in the perverseness of evil,
15 whose paths are crooked
and who are devious in their ways.
16 It will save you also from the adulteress,
from the wayward wife with her seductive words,
17 who has left the partner of her youth
and ignored the covenant she made before God. [a]
18 For her house leads down to death
and her paths to the spirits of the dead.
19 None who go to her return
or attain the paths of life.
20 Thus you will walk in the ways of good men
and keep to the paths of the righteous.
21 For the upright will live in the land,
and the blameless will remain in it;
22 but the wicked will be cut off from the land,
and the unfaithful will be torn from it.
