In the Bible God sacrificed his only son.
Can you think of any circumstances where you would have to choose between God and your child?

CJ- Some people disown their children because they don't follow biblical teachings. Isn't that a choice they are making?

Difficult question Petra. The problem I have is that I find it difficult to quantify my love for God or for my child...in my mind, both are infinite and I would williingly lay down my life for either of them.

Yes, God sacrificed his only son, however, he knew, not thought, believed, hoped, or had faith, he actually KNEW beyond a shadow of a doubt that his son would not be lost to him forever. He even knew that his son would rise from the dead after three days. With my human mind, I would have a hard time being as confident that I was making the correct decision. I also know that I have never been able to obey without question everything that God asks me to do...I would like to think that I am willing to do what he asks me to do, but I know that I am just as likely to disobey because of my own fears and imperfections!

When I think about God asking me to sacrifice my son to him, I automatically think about Abraham. God asked Abraham to prove his trust in Him by offering his son Issac as a sacrifice. However, when Abraham demonstrated his willingness to do as God commanded, God provided him with an alternative. Thus, I dont' believe God would ever ask me to actually sacrifice my son's life to prove something to him.

I can imagine any number of circumstances that would force a parent to choose between the will of God and what they might think is best for their child. For example, a member of my family is struggling with a son that is addicted to crack cocaine. The father knows that God doesn't want him to continue to support his son in this destructive behavior and the father even knows that it is against God's commandment to "love one another" to help a person commit suicide...but so far, he has been unable to do what he knows is right (stop providing financial support and drawing the line at allowing that behavior in his home) because of his feelings for his son!

I have to choose between God and my son every day of my life. It can be a very tough choice. I know what I'm supposed to do but it doesn't always work that way. Thankfully, I worship a forgiving God.

A few years ago I fell in love with a truly wonderful woman. She was not a believer and the bible says that's a no-no. Even though I tried to put my best Christian foot forward, over time I could see that I was forsaking God to please the woman I loved. In time the relationship fell apart and one of the reasons was my Christian beliefs. A painful experience that should never have happened.

Yes. You are imprisoned for you belief as a Christian. You are tortured to force you to deny your faith, either to accept the pagan gods of Rome or to reject a higher authority than the state. If you still refuse to recant, your children are brought before you. You are told that if you persist in your obstinance, they will be killed most horribly before your eyes and then you yourself will be slain.

This occurred many times over the centuries, at the hands of the Romans, Red Chinese, Soviets, Nazis and others.
Many times the parent would play along to save the lives of themselves and their families.
The ones who did not recant and were slain are called martyrs. Real martyrs do not seek death, they seek God and freedom to worship.

God could desire to come earlier absolutely everyone. As Christians, which could be not hassle-free to do each so often. yet remember to love God earlier your little ones. After God could desire to come your companion, then your little ones, then something of your loved ones. how are you able to place absolutely everyone in this worldwide merely before God on your existence? God is the only which gave your little ones to you. He can merely as truthfully take them away, yet chooses to allow you to have them in this existence. compliment Him FIRST. consistently.

There was a bigger pupose for that matter. It was for the purpose of all mankind.
At any given time, if it is fate to do so, for a bigger purpose, then it will happen.

Okay, now this might sound on the surface as a profound question, but honestly there is no biblical grounds for a New Testament Christian to ever have to make that choice. Not physically.

The only choice would be an eternal one. I will go to heaven for eternity because of Jesus. If for some reason one of my children insisted on rejecting Jesus to their dying breath, I will not follow them to hell.

Nevertheless the Bible promises that the parent that truly does raise their child in the truth of Jesus Christ, that the child will never depart (and thus never end up in hell)

I choose God first- without Him, I wouldn't here, nor would my children. My children are the most precious gift He's given me and I feel so blessed and priviliged that He chose ME to be their mother! :)

Unfortunately if I say yes I'd probably be a hypocrite. However, I think a true believer loves God more than his own family (not to say we don't love our families!
