I can't figure it out and it isn't bring up help. It is adobe Photo shop 7.0

Click on 'Image' in the main pull-down menu. Then 'Mode'. Then 'grayscale'. And there you are.

Both answers about using grayscale and desaturate will work although I think the results are usually mediocre.

A better and much more flexible solution (if available in PS7) is using a channel mixer adjustment layer.

I can't remember at which version channel mixer was included but it is what most professionals use to convert.

Just go to Help and search for channel mixer.

you can try to scan youre photo from youre photo file form youre computer. by such do you have a scanner at home that you can scan youre picture will turn black and white .

go to image > adjustments > desaturate
