Is this normal? He sometimes has spit hanging from his mouth. I have watched him open his mouth super wide. What is he doing? It's very odd. I worry a lot about him because he doesn't seem to be behaving like the books say he should in regards to his eating, basking and sleeping. I wish he was normal.

African Sideneck. He doesn't show any signs of being sick. Sometimes he just has a string of spittle hanging from his mouth. He isn't sleeping a lot or basking a lot (I think he does come out of his water when I am not around). His eyes look bright and he is pretty active most of the time. Maybe it's nothing.

First of all ..What kind of turtle? Aquatic Turtles blow bubbles and spit water from their mouths...and nose this is normal..

To drool...what do you mean....frothy...letharic..non-responsive

A form of respiratory illness or pneumonia is also a possibility from the bit about the drool.

This could be pneumonia, they will "bubble" from the mouth, also he may be gasping for air. You must get him to the Vet. Call to find one that is familiar with reptiles. Good luck!

Sounds like an upper respiratory infection or mouth infection. Seek out an experienced reptile vet.
