I spoke with a Scientologist outside their office in the city today. Do you think I should give it a try? Would I be able to ditch my stupid day job and do "scientologist" stuff instead?

NO. You can read about Scientology's origins, history, beliefs, practices, intentions, etc, in this link: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070820195015AAaO9EW

And this is why NO ONE should ever be involved in Scientology.... EVER:

There are multitudes of people who have suffered tragic experiences during their involvement with Scientology. Read about them here:

http://www.whyaretheydead.net/krasel/
http://xenu.net/archive/personal_story/cheryl_s

Here are more "bad experiences" with the cult including an illegal plot to infiltrate the government, brainwashing techniques, mind control camps, attacks on critics, and DEATHS caused by Scientology doctrine and members:

● Operation Snow White – Under this official program, Scientology operatives committed infiltration, wiretapping, & theft of documents in government offices. This program constituted the single largest infiltration of the United States government in history. Among the 11 prominent Scientologists convicted of this conspiracy was Mary Sue Hubbard, the wife of Scientology’s “prophet”.

http://en.allexperts.com/e/o/op/operation_snow_white.htm

● Operation Freakout - Their campaign of sabotage & violence against Paulette Cooper, the writer who published her research & findings on several cults, including Scientology. Scientology’s official plan: to frame Paulette, ruin her career & reputation & get her either incarcerated or locked up in psychiatric confinement.
The official plan: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Krasel/cooper/frk1.html
Her book: http://holysmoke.org/cos/books/scandal-of-scientology-cooper.pdf

● Fair Game - the Scientology policy detailing how the organization may confront & handle critics & perceived enemies. Here is a direct quote: "Enemies may be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed.”
http://www.xenu.net/archive/disk/fairgame.htm
http://www.planetkc.com/sloth/sci/Fair_game_ord.html
http://www.fairgamed.org/

● Physical & psychological punishment: Scientologists who "break the rules" while members of the "Sea Org" must subject themselves to the Rehabilitation Project Force (RPF), which includes regimes of harsh physical punishment, forced self-confessions, social isolation, hard labor and intensive ideological indoctrination.

● Brainwashing & mind control: Scientology exerts control over its members by means of typical cult tactics, including but not limited to controlling information about internal doctrine & criticism of the organization, severely restricting social contact outside the cult (including the practice of “disconnecting” with any family who question the credibility & trustworthiness of the cult), creating an “us against them” mentality by villainizing a specific out-group (for Scientology, it’s psychiatrists), & claiming all those outside the cult are unenlightened.

● Violent Kidnapping - Lisa McPherson was a Scientologist, was involved in a car accident & resultantly became mentally unstable. She was kidnapped from the hospital by agents of Scientology, held against her will, refused proper psychiatric treatment & allowed to STARVE TO DEATH.

As a Scientologist myself I advise that you read some basic books and find out what it actually is first.

In those books will be lots of things that you can try.
Apply those principles to your life to improve your life and see for yourself how it works.

You could start with " The Problems of Work"
This is Scientology applied to the working environment.
Sounds like it could use some improvement.

Don't go there. Where have you been living? You could ditch the day job. And your familly, friends, house, life savings, your health, freedom and a load more of no more need for things know you are a scientogist! They prefere to unburdern you of all your money and possessions. They are thoughtfull like that!

It doesnt sound like you talked to a scientologist. I dont know of any that would tell you anything like ditching your day job and doing scientologist stuff. Are you sure that you didnt talk to a priest or monk? Sounds more like their style.

No. No one needs religion. We are not innately evil and in need of redemption. If you can understand the concept of live and let live, you have condensed millennia of religious ruminations into their essences.
Treat people as your equals, show them respect, don't harshly judge those who mean well, and be free to live a good life. Don't imprison your mind and shackle your life with the philosophical and religious detritus of the past. Obey current civil law and you will be living a good life. Just don't use your non-religious belief to try to justify that which in your heart you feel is sincerely wrong. You have a conscience for a reason.

If you are able and motivated, absolutely.

If your not able and motivated we can help you with that.

To be a Scientology Staff Member you need a strong desire to help people.

I have completed two Staff contracts, each time I have been on staff I earnt as much as I did in full time employment. I would put it down to nessesity level. I may have worked a bit harder each time, the result was feeling and being more alive.

While I am generally a strong supporter of diverse religious experiences, I can't bring myself to suggest you do it in this case. I don't know exactly when they consider you a member, but once you're a member, the official policy of the Church of Scientology is to harass you mercilessly if you choose to leave.

If you are interested in the evidence behind the accusations against Scientology, I would strongly suggest www.xenu.net. It is very well supported.

Don't do it. It's a fraud. It's a pyramid scheme and a fraud. It's psychological manipulation, and if you give them enough money, they'll teach you how to manipulate others. That's the only way you will ever quit your regular job and do Scientology stuff full time: by ripping other people off.

I was going to comment, but... I decided, if I can't say anything nice about Scientology, then I just won't say anything at all.
