I was thinking about buying a new computer but heard there was a bunch of problems with windows vista. What are the problems and when should I expect they be fixed?

If you are not in a hurry to buy a new computer, wait for a few months until Microsoft releases Service Pack 1 for Vista. Then buy a new machine with that pre-installed.

We run Vista and it is fine after making a few adjustments for our own computing preferences. Oh yeah, just don't get Vista Basic.

Well most problems with windows vista should be fixed by now and if they arent you can always go to the site and download the security packs and other things that might be wrong with vista but i think all the bugs have been worked out

i am a linux zealot. please ignore this bias post.
a lot of the problems will likely never be fixed. If microsoft isn't forced by the doj they usually don't fix stuff unless they can make a profit. the general opinion is that by sp2 it will be usable. for now, get xp
