Yes I always do my part. I use plastic bags instead of paper. I just kept my neighbor from buying a Hummer by buying it first. I also make sure I never recycle so you can buy new things instead of something made with others thrash. I also use the old fashion light bulbs. Another way I help the environment is I never waste my own energy walking even if I have to go only 0.10 miles I will drive. This way I save enough energy to write Yahoo answers to let other know how to help the environment.
Other ways you can help:
Keep your A/C on 24 hours a day. I not only cools your home it cools the earth. Believe me on this one.
Always keep you car running when you go thru a fast food drive thru it uses more energy to shut the enegine of and turn it back on.
Use your cars A/C whenever possible. Newer s are built to use less gas with the A/C on. If you must have the A/C off in your car please whatever you do keep your windows open especially on the freeway. Actually this may seem like nonsense (it is not) but your car will get the best mpgs by keeping all you windows open with the A/C turned to the high position.
Remember to let the engine idle for 50 minutes at least once a month to keep the engine running optimally on all new cars.
There are other ways to help the environment such as when you go to the supermarket always ask for double plastic bags. You have effectively kept one bag from getting into the hands of a polluter.
Also it is best not to use recyclable container if one is provided for you. If you combine your thrash the people at the local dump will separate it anyway and studies have shown they are better at determining what can be recycled and what can't be recycled than the average person.
Hope this helps in your effort in saving the environment. Start now it is never too late.
Also make sure you always buy green. My Hummer is a nice green. I only buy green paper. I went to the store and bought green paint so If my paper towels on white i can instantly make them green and environmentally friendly.
Do not become a hypocrite and say you are in favor of the green movement but live in a blue house. Before I became involved in the environmental movement I had a blue house but now I painted my house green with some paint I had left from the 1950's.
Another thing that might be helpful is
Solar power has long been the friend of environmentalist until now. All research now proves that the use of solar power creates a mass buildup of carbon. Solar powered houses emit more carbon into the atmosphere in one day than running the engine on a Hummer 24 hours a day 7 days a week for 10 years. Please contact your local politician and tell them you want to save the Earth and to stop the madness. Let them know you want a ban on all solar power.

1. Use everything until it cannot be reused and then find another use. Paper has two sides. When I have used one side, I turn it over and use the other. When fully utilized, it is recycled.
2. Recycle all glass. plastic, and aluminum.
3. Walk to the post office instead of driving the three blocks
4. Keep the air conditioning off until the temperature goes above 90.
5. I used to work for the nuclear power industry. The only power sources that are less polluting for the energy produced are hydroelectric and wind. Even solar has a greater effect on society when you include mining, maintenance, and disposal of the very toxic materials involved in solar panels.
6. Use pencil holders to use pencils that have been sharpened down to short lengths.
7. Use energy saving bulbs
8. Leftovers get used over the next few days so garbage is kept at a minimum
9. Etc.

I help the environment everyday. I reuse my napkins & paper towels and reuse them for toilet paper. I recycle and save all my dish water to flush my toilet. My bath water I take my bath first then my Husband uses it to take a bath then my Son uses it to take a bath then my Daughter uses it to take a bath and then my other daughter uses it to take a bath then I wash my dogs and water my plants. I live off rain water as much as I can collect. I made my own shopping bags to be reused instead of using the store paper bags. I never use paper plates even on picnic's.

The best thing that you can do is contact your legislators and encourage them to ban the use of coal for producing energy for any purpose.
Also encourage your friends to contact their legislators to encourage them to ban the use of coal for producing energy for any purpose.
This will produce benefits for the environment far greater than anything else that you can do.
Coal produces more than 50% of the carbon dioxide emissions in the United States. Coal is used primarily to generate electricity.
All of the generating capacity of coal fired power plants can be replaced by wind power at approximately the same cost of production of electricity, that is a cost of approximately 4 cents per kilowatt hour(1).
Coal is also contaminated with radioactive Uranium and Thorium. Radioactive Uranium and Thorium go up the smokestack with the fly ash and is concentrated in the coal ash.
The coal ash is stored in huge piles on the ground.
The radioactive isotopes in the coal ash continue to break down and produce radioactive Radon gas that diffuses from the pile of ash to the environment, and radioactive Plutonium is also produced in the pile of ash.
The radioactve Uranium, Thorium and Plutonium are then spread by the wind when it blows the ash.
Also when it rains, rainwater leaches the radioactive Uranium, Thorium and Plutonium from the ash and pollutes the rivers, lakes and streams in the vicinity with radioactive waste(2).
It is time that we all contacted our legislators to demand that they support a ban on the use of coal as a fuel in the United States.
Also we should encourage other countries to ban the use of coal as a fuel.

I wear my clothes longer before I wash them.
I have discovered that I can wear my underwear for three days and if I turn it inside out it it is good for three more days.

I recycle all my bottles, and Support Logging !
(before you yell at the logging thing, when we cut down old dead trees that do not produce oxygen, we replant new baby trees that produce oxygen.)
