Depends.
Whose kids are we talking about?
Because, if it's up to me to choose a babysitter for my own kids, my answer is that it is nobody else's business who I hire as long as they take care of my kids...
Whether the sitter is black or white is not the most important criteria...
Can she make a real pb&j...now that is an important consideration!!

Yes, that is discrimination. Of course, there is really no way to know if that's the reason, let alone the only reason, a person was not hired. I suppose some people are actually tacky enough, or stupid enough, to say that is their reason. But I doubt very many would. Usually they will use some other excuse, even if that really is the primary reason.
In a small-time issue like this, it's probably not worth fighting. A person who hires someone to work for them in their home generally has complete discretion as to who they hire. So while it clearly is discrimination, it may not be illegal.

Of course it is. Then again, it is discrimination to select anyone over anyone else for any reason...businesses "discriminate" amongst job applicants all the time for many different reasons (education, skills, appearance, race, religion, etc...).
...but I assume you're talking about the specific concept of racial discrimination. Any decision based solely on racial membership is discrimination.
Now if you're asking about the legal definition of the term "discrimination" (in other words, is this illegal discrimination), the answer is no. Individuals and even small businesses (fewer than 15 employees and some other requirements) are not legally bound by the Civil Rights Act or any other "anti-discrimination" law except in VERY specific circumstances (for example, it is illegal to discrimination in housing no matter how small or large you are)...but for employment purposes, individuals and small businesses aren't subject to most of the laws that apply to other businesses!

People seem to think the word 'discrimination' is automatically negatory. When you date, do you not discriminate? When you buy a refrigerator do you not discriminate? When you seek out someone to raise your child for you, do you not discriminate? You have every right in the world to discriminate anyone you don't feel is fit to do the job, based on whatever criteria you see fit. And if you feel that that person need be the same race as your child, that is your right to make that decision. The government has no place telling you how to raise your child.

Uh, obviously.
You really need it explained? You're not allowing a black person to care for your child because he or she is black. That is discrimination...lol. Try looking up "discrimination" in the dictionary.

Yes this is also discrimination...Some discrimination is legal and some is not legal in the USA. The word itself is not necessarily a derogatory term although many jump to the conclusion that it is.

I believe that this is absolutely discrimination. We are the same...despite the outward differences...
We all bleed the same, hurt, cry, laugh, love...
We all have hearts, lungs, a liver, skin, eyes, teeth...
Discrimination is the poison of the shallow and ignorant.

I think discrimination is a legal term. If you don't want somebody taking care of your child, no matter how stupid the reason, is up to you. I think if you do that your are racist and prejudice.

Of course. Your other question regarding if they are Christians is not discrimination. A person chooses religion. A person does not choose their skin color.
