I've been looking for ferret cages on the internet. I'm not sure what size they need. I know alot of people try putting them in those little rabbit cages and I know better than that but what size is best. Also where can I find affordable cages. Maybe they are all expensive but I can't find one reasonable enough to want to buy. Have any suggestions of where I can get a decent one that isn't going to cost an arm and a leg?

I highly recommend Martin's cages....

http://www.martinscages.com/

They're well suited to a ferrets needs and very comfortable for ferrets, they're easy to clean and maintain, very well made and will last forever, and come in a variety of sizes with prices ranging from low to high.

I currently have two modified Penthouse cages and couldn't be happier with them. You can see them here....

I don't recommend Super Pet cages. They're too difficult to clean and maintain, they wear out quickly (shelves warp, bars rust), and some models really aren't well suited for ferrets (not enough shelves, ramps to steep, etc....various things that make navigating the cage difficult and may cause a ferret to fall and become injured). I've had three models myself (the 4 story, the multi, and the ferret kingdom) and wasn't overly pleased with any of them.

Buy a cage that has room for two litter boxes, a food and water dish, toys, a sleeping and a play area. Bigger is better. Ferrets love tunnels and climbing. Also, try to get a cage with plastic floors. They don't hurt the ferret feet like wire, and they are very easy to clean.

There is one at PetSmart for $99.99. It's a SuperPet habitat and worth every penny. Easy to clean and very accessible. Roomy and not too big. Comes with adjustable shelves, bowl, ramps, slide and I think a sleep hammock. I have 11 ferrets. Mine is also a SuperPet cage, but a bit larger than the one I'm describing, about the size of a 'fridge.

Try www.theferretstore.com they usually have sales. I got the cage for my fuzzies from them at a decent price. They're usually between $130.00 and 200.00. A little pricey but realize this is something that you're going to have for years and the bigger the cage the happier the ferret especially if they'll be in their cage for most of the day.

Also try: www.ferret.com and www.ferretdepot.com

It all depends on how much you take him out, a large one is definitely good. But if you take him out atleast 3-4 hours a day a medium-large is alright. Ferrets like to walk around so it's good to buy them a big cage! I got my ferret a 3 floored cage so even when I don't take him out he has something to do.

I found a huge cage at a petstore that was going out of business, but I know Ebay has some cheaper ones. Also check out Craigslist and freecycle groups, you can find stuff on there alot too. If you have a local petstore that has a discount section (damaged section) you can find cages that might be a little banged up but still safe to house an animal in.

Get the very largest you can afford to buy! The "condo" type are excellent. Ebay has some really cheap cages, but you can also get good buys from bird fairs--check around to see if your town has a local pet bird club. Check the papers for people selling cages.

just get the largest cage you can afford.
i had 2 ferrets and their cage was a 4-story "condo" it was about $150 i think. we ordered it from petsmart.com.
what did you have in mind? how many ferrets do you have? one should be fine in a one story(but you can go bigger if you want) but i think 2 or more need atleast 2 stories.
