When it comes to citations with "no proof of insurance", "no DL in posession", or for the one you stated, you should be able to get the charge dropped if you go to court.

Whenever I have cited someone for those charges I always tell them to bring the document when they go to court and the judge will see that you actually do have it.

I personally think that having to go to court is enough punishment for that, and when I give that citation I do not expect any decent person to have to pay a fine for it. (As any decent person would have the document at home and had just made a mistake by forgetting it, accidents do happen!)

Officers give out that citation in case you don't have it....don't worry, you will be fine!

Yeah usually you can go to the court house and show them you have a license and registration. If you live out of state like to far to run over and do that, I would just pay the 180, I mean yeah its a lot but better than all the headache associated with it.

In most states, if you don't have the registration with you, but you can produce it within ten days, the charge will be dropped; you may have to pay a processing fee, but that's it. Call the clerk for the court to which your ticket is assigned, and find out what, if any, provisions are applicable in NJ. Good luck!!

Your registration is supposed to be in the car. The ticket is for not having it in the car while you were operating it.
