The English language has been the language used since the beginning of our Country. In my state we have a growing population that speak Spanish and are unable to understand or speak English. I feel it would be to their benefit to prosper if they learned English. Question: Should English be our national language?

you have to ask? yes, of course it should be. it wouldn't hurt us americans to learn another language or languages but when entering into this country to live, work, stay, etc., i personally feel it is a slap in the face of logic that you (as an immigrant) not to learn english. when i traveled to france, i felt like a fish out of water not speaking french. that was my first trip. second? well, i learned some french & couldn't wait to go & try out what i learned. well, i got there in paris and voila! all those i met who spoke french wanted to practice their english on me so i ended up listening to the language i listen to 365 days a year & only got to use what french i know on slow waiters (who couldn't get away from me fast enough). it's a funny memory and one i like to share when it comes to languages, travel, etc., but know what? if i lived anywhere in another country, while english is my prime language, i would place that in an ESL (english as a second language) and learn my newly adopted country's lingo. reverse the situation & having new people from all over the world here in the usa? i would expect them the same courtesy as i would extend to them. i would also expect my govt to respect the native born americans, the language the foundling fathers fought so hard to keep (despite anti-british feelings back in 1787), and the culture is represents. both presidential hopefuls, obama & clinton is supporting this anti-english movement in america & because of this i'll vote for anyone than either of these gems. in fact, guiliani is looking better & better. he is, after all, 100 per cent american and can't get any better than that!

In America sure. We are an English speakme Nation. If any person wishes to talk extra languages right here, that is adequate. But allow's no longer placed a burden at the tax payers to pay for indicators of folks who can not talk English. Spanish speakme humans don't have any extra proper to have indicators of their language than that of some other race. What companies do with making indicators to be had in extraordinary languages is their prerogative. But go away the States and Federal Government out of providing those advantages for foreigners.

I think it should, not to the extent that people lose their cultures by assimilating so much, but just so that everyone can share a common language, a way in which to communicate. Also, sociologically speaking, there is a well-known theory that the language you speak, is in a large part responsible for how you think. Anyone whose studied a language vastly different from English knows this. Therefore it would also be helpful if everyone had a common point of reference and an understanding of how other people think. In terms of a business perspective, English is the national business language and i think as the U.S economy is struggling it would behoove us, economically speaking if everyone could speak English.

What is your countries national language? But ya, if the majority speak one language it would be a good idea to "make it official" ..

Up here in Canada :P Our National Languages are English and French. So in school you have to learn a bit of French if you are in the English Schools, and in the French schools you have to learn a bit of English.

Yes, I think it should be our national language. Why should we learn Spanish to do business with them. Immigrants from Europe and Asia have learned to speak English. I do not see why our country should try to appease the Spanish speaking people when they have not done the same for every other language that people in the US speak. I do not see any Korean signs or German signs around telling people to Vote Here. It is very irritating to see signs in Spanish, since it was not done for every language.

Yes, and if the Politicians are listening you could win a lot of votes by making it the official language of the united states or La lingua officiado de los estados unidos. or Pasa Pratet SahaRat
