No. 1,200 calories is the LOWEST you should ever go down to.
So many people believe that cutting out almost all their calories will help them lose weight faster. That's WRONG. Cutting out the crap and eating smaller portions is very good....but you HAVE to exercise. That is what causes the weight loss! Eating 1,200 calories of vegetables, whole grains, lean meats and fruit is what you have to have a day. But you won't lose much weight JUST doing that. You have to exercise. Even if you just walk BRISKLY (I mean really walk--putt your butt into it) for 1 hour EVERY day....you will lose weight.
If you just eat 1000 calories of vegetables, fruit, egg whites and meat.....you will go into starvation mode very quickly and you won't lose ANY weight. Your body will be starving and it will hold on to ALL your stored fat and calories. In fact, you'll probably GAIN a few pounds.

Low Carb Dieting Tip
Your rate of metabolism dictates how many calories you burn. Heredity, gender, age, body size. diet and nutrition, activity level, and your overall health factor in on determining how high or low your metabolism is. It is normal for metabolism levels to lower as a person ages. Because of this it is important to begin stepping up your exercise routines in your thirties and forties.

Ways to Boost Your Metabolism

Eat Regularly - Eating 5-6 small meals throughout the day will give you energy throughout the day--helping you to burn calories. Whereas, calories eaten during larger meals tend to get stored as fat.
Maintain a Balanced Diet - Not only how often you eat is important, but your food choices are equally as important. Nurture you body with the appropriate balance of protein and carbs.

Eating whole foods rather than processed food gives your digestive system a workout that burns calories. For example: choose an apple over apple juice.
Workout with Weights - Building muscle mass will replace stored fat. As you build muscle tissue your metabolism increases.
Don't Forget Cardio - You need to get that heart rate up and breathe a little heavier. Twenty to thirty minutes of cardiovascular activity 5 days a week is recommended. Brisk walking or swimming are good. Or utilize exercise equipment (exercise bike, treadmill, or elliptical trainer)
Fruits and vegetables are clearly an important part of a good diet. Almost everyone can benefit from eating more of them, but variety is as important as quantity. No single fruit or vegetable provides all of the nutrients you need to be healthy. The key lies in the variety of different fruits and vegetables that you eat.
Some basic fruit and vegetable tips:
• Try to eat more fruits and vegetables. If you need 2,000 calories a day to maintain your weight and health, aim for at least nine servings (4½ cups) a day.
• Choose a variety of different fruits and vegetables. It's easy to get into a rut when it comes to the food you eat. Break out and try a wider variety - include dark-green, leafy vegetables; yellow, orange, and red fruits and vegetables; cooked tomatoes; and citrus fruits.

Make sure you cut out all the salt and and drink lots of water. Don't cut your calories that low, your body will go into starvation mode.
Eat lots of veggies and greens (no butter, salt or dressing...a good alternative would be salsa), eat small portions of healthy meat (white meat chicken and turkey and egg whites). Eat 5-6 meals of all the veggies and greens you want and 2-3 oz. of meat at each meal....you should be able to lose it quicker then that...and you will be heatlhy doing it.

It should. You should be able to lose 1.5 to 2 lbs a week. Be sure to drink a lot of water and get some exercise. I wouldn't go lower than 1000 calories.

First off, the lowest calorie restriction that I would say you should go down to is 1200 calories. I won't even support that. I personally tried doing a 1200 calorie a day diet and it left me unhappy and irritable.

Geez, you're still growing and will continue to grow until you're about 25 years of age. As long as you don't get obese, keep doing what your doing. But a 1000 calorie diet will only destroy your growing body and mess up your reproductive organs.

it should and that is a reasonable goal, limit your meat intake to three ounces a day, a piece about the size of a deck of cards. And add thirty minutes of exercise to your regimen, you ought to reach your goal in the time you want.
