Sam, the average person dreams between ten to twelve dreams a night. The only ones we remember are the ones we're having, or just had, as we're waking up.
It's not uncommon or unusual to not remember your dreams if you are a busy person with a full day ahead of you who wakes up to some kind of an alarm clock or radio. As soon as your alarm goes off your mind instantly switches to thoughts of the day.
You might be able to remember some of your dreams by not setting your alarm clock on the days you have off and just let yourself wake naturally. And when waking naturally, instead of filling your head with the day's activities, try just laying in bed awhile and keep your head clear. This should let you better remember that last dream you had.
There are many reasons why some people don't remember their dreams and none of these reasons mean you are abnormal. In fact, it might just suggest that you are quite a well-balanced, common-sense type of person. Often dreams are ways to talk to us and help us decipher troubles we're having in life now or with past issues we've had that are not resolved. If you're not dealing with emotional and stressful issues at this time with some past tramas or have any current difficulties then the dreams you are having might not be so emotionally powerful that your brain is requiring you to remember them.
Basically, I wouldn't worry about it if you aren't remembering your dreams. Consider your life less stressful than many others are.

Well, when you're asleep there is a cycle. During this cycle, during the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) period, you will be dreaming. If you wake up directly after or during this time in the cycle, the dream will be fresh on your mind, but if you don't, you will have trouble remembering your dreams. The cycle occurs 4-5 times a night, so u have 4-5 dreams. The dreams that most people remember are the ones right before they wake up, which means perhaps you wake up too far away from a REM period (too early) so you forget your dreams. It is not unnatural to not be able to remember dreams, but you probably have remembered them but forgot. You may just barely remember a dream for a few minutes when you wake up before you forget.

You may be a very deep sleeper and so when you awake, you dont "snap out of it" quickly, enabling you to hang onto dreams before they fade away.... What about when you wake up to go to the toilet.... do you remember anything then? You could use that as a trigger..... a lot of people need to train themselves to wake up and remember their dreams...
