The name of G-d can not be said, written, or otherwise uttered in vain. Most traditional Jews do this to avoid doing so. In Hebrew script, when the Word of the L-rd described him as personal or of one having closeness it says just the letters Yod, Hey, Vov, Hey. The English rendition of these four letters are Y-H-V-H and by tritition, are not to be uttered. The word Adonai is said instead. In most places in the King James Bible, the Words Lord G-d are written (with the "o"). You may know that when the King James Bible was first translated, the letter "J" was pronounced as a letter "Y". There is also 7 places in the Bible where the letters are pronounced as they are, as part of the blessed name of a place that the L-rd G-d blessed a prophet. Look in these places:
Ge 22:14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.
Jehovahjireh means: The L-rd G-d who provides, because He provided for Abrham a sacrifice when he would not withhold his only son from the L-rd and was about to sacrifice him just as he was told to by the L-rd G-d himself.
Ex 17:15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:
Jehovahnissi means that the L-rd G-d will always be at war with the desendents of Amalek.
Jud 6:24 Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovahshalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
Jehovahshalom was the name that Gideon called this place because the L-rd G-d called peace to him in this place.
The other 4 places are:
Ex 6:3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.
Ps 83:18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.
Isa 12:2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
Isa 26:4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:
These places speak of the greatness of the L-rd G-d

I'm a conservative Jew and this is my reason for writing the word "G-d."
The word itself is very holy and once it is written down, that paper must be treated as if G-d himself was on it. Therefore, when a Siddur (prayer book) becomes unusable, we don't just throw them away. Instead, there is a funeral and we bury the books.
Now there is no ruling on internet but I just stay on the safe side and don't write his name

out of respect for the creator. In old testament times, using dietys name in a vulgar or blasphemous way got you a stoning. Ive never heard a jewish person curse using gods name, but many christians do. so whos more "christian"? kinda weird huh?

It's done out of respect and from the commandment not to take the Lord's name in vain. It's okay to say it in prayer and the rest of the time you use a substitute, "hashem," which is a Hebrew word that just means "the name."

They can say it, but only with a covered head. They can write GOD, but not the Hebrew word. Most spell it G-d out of respect.

they can say God and write it and they can write Lord and many other things referring to God the Almighty.
But they cannot say or write his name. They felt it was to holy and they may do it wrong and then be punished by God.
