their caloric intake is very small comparing to what they were used to consume. they lose a lot of water weight and muscle as well as fat (the more you weight the more muscle you have to carry all that around all day).
Thats a huge commitment for obese person - never to binge in life ever again.

This question doesn't make sense. You eat to live, and usually gastric patients have alot of weight to lose, it appears that they "melt away". Normal people need 1500 - 2000 calories a day. If you change your calorie intake you will either gain or lose the weight

you need to eat to lose weight but gastric bypass patients do eat even though its a little bit also they have so much extra fat and calories stored up to burn (use up) that they only need to eat a little.

Their stomachs have been reduced to almost nothing. So they are forced to eat little meals throughout the day or starve.
Very dangerous place to be for the sake of weight loose.
