Is the furniture brown or black?
Green is a nice option. Think green apple or lime, something with more yellow than blue that will reflect more light. You can get colored paint samples at the paint store or Lowe's, and find a sample that is closest to the color of your furniture and match it to something bright with yellow undertones. The yellow undertones in the paint will reflect light and glow, lighting up the room.
If green is not your color, try a blue that seems to have some yellow in it. Or better yet, pick a color out of your images (unless they are all black-and-white) and match it to a paint sample, then paint the room that color.
Have fun with color.

Don't be afraid of colour! (are we both brits?)...
Light colours will help to reflect the light around the room. Choose something you really like, and want to emphasise... e.g. a picture or some fabric, and take the accent colours from that. You may have to reduce the intensity on a large wall, but be bold, and you will feel energized, and your friends will be impressed that you have not been boring and beige...Work the colour around the room using decorative accents to tie everything together so it harmonizes.

Ok; dark furniture will make a room appear smaller; white walls are blah....dark colors will make the room disappear....beiges/tans/neutrals show no imagination...like you are playing it safe. Go with a light creamy yellow. Paint the woodwork a shiny white (if you are painting it). Accent with bits of red....(throw rugs, pillows, or window treatments)....you don't have to go overboard but is will make the room POP! I am not sure what room this is. I love to use old books (hardcover) and stack them up. Sit items on top of them. I use birdcages, old hatboxes, picture frames and of course hang pictures in nice frames on the wall.
Good Luck !

If the furniture has pleasing shapes a light taupe color would accent the dark pieces. use white woodwork and add some color in accessories, pillows area rug.

Try light, bright color for walls:
pink or rose
*peach or coral
*pale gold or banana
lime or mint
aqua or sky
lavender
caramel
or good old white or ivory.
Add drapes/blinds that are same color, or a print with the same colors in them.
PS: images of what?
