Oh, goody!
Without looking at any of the answers you already have, I'm going to guess that almost all the Christians answer something like "only God can judge that"....which will give me a good belly laugh, since so many of them right here on R&S judge some as "real" Christians and some as NOT "real" Christians.
It would make an interesting study to compile all the various standards by which "real" Christians evaluate other Christians as NOT being "real" Christians.

As for myself, I have always understood "Christian" to mean a follower of Jesus; a person who follows Jesus' example and teachings as their spiritual and ethical compass.

A Christian, by all means, is someone who believes in an almighty omnipresent force called God, his son Jesus and the holy spirit. They study from a book called the Bible.
Other than that there is no real defination of a REAL Christian, since most sects believe in diffrent aspects. Mormons have their own type of Bible and moral belief structure. Lutherans take the teaching of the Bible and study them while going to church regularly or during major events. Roman Catholics believe the Pope to be the ultimate God guru and are usually associated with large elaborate churches and strict procedures and rituals. Pentacostal Christians take the Bible to heart as if every word was exactly true, so the world was made in seven (24hr) days.
Some people don't even go to church or study the Bible and call themselves Christian.
As far as who decides who is real or not isn't the question. The answer is who is a real Christian? That is something that is so open to opinion that no one person can point fingers, short of God him/herself

It isn't a decision but more like actions that speak the loudest here with being a Christian. Does their walk equal with the faith in all they do.
You can't claim to be Christian and read tarot cards for an example, as that would be going against the word of God. And if you do claim to be Christian you have some serious soul searching to do.

The Romans initially decided who real Christians are. Today anyone can claim it, that's why there are 248,439 Christian denominations (in the USA alone), and each one claims only they are real Christians. What a confused religion and laughing stock.

Great question.
So many Christians think it's okay to judge others, even though the Bible specifically tells them not to.
I thought only God decided who goes to heaven and who goes to hell, but you wouldn't know it from a lot of the so-called Christians I know.

Regardless of what they say, anybody that believes in the bible and Jesus is a Christian. A real Christian. If they weren't real, they'd cease to exist.

God and Jesus are the ultimate judges when it's all said and done. Those who claim to be Christians not only talk the talk but they walk the walk as well.

believers are not allowed to judge others, but believers are told by Christ that they would be "known by their fruits" There is also a warning in the Bible not to guess who is saved and who isn't rather we know if someone is based on their testimony. The Holy Spirit bears witness to the Truth.

God and Jesus.
as Jesus makes quite clear in numerous places, "NOT ALL Who say Lord Lord shall enter the kingdom" and that ONLY 2 of 7 world churches are found teaching his truth when he returns at the 7th trump. 2 of 7 isn't many.
