A few weeks ago 23 South Koreans were in Afghanistan to render aid, medical, social and relief to the Afghanistanis and the Taliban kidnapped them, killed at least two and for no reason. Does the media not cover this because they are Christians?

If they were Buddhist or wiccans or something the media would probably go over and rescue them their selves. The media is so anti Christians they ( media ) don't care what happens.

Personally, I don't feel bad for them whatsoever.

They knew the dangers. They should never have been there. For Muslims, one of the worst things you can do is try to convert someone to another religion. While I am not a Muslim, I agree with this sentiment. These people went to Afghanistan, one of the most staunchly-Islamic countries in the world, and did exactly that. That created a huge target on their backs.

Too bad for them, but they should never have been there. Maybe now Koreans will reconsider pushing their beliefs on others that they consider inferior. They were culturally insensitive.

No. There is no outcry because it's old news to have hostages and killings in the Middle East. I'm not saying it's right... it's not, but blame religion for the wars in the first place. If Abrahamic religions didn't exist, we wouldn't have this problem in the first place.

It's not prejudice. It's just an everyday occurrance, almost.

Sorry for the rant, I just get so furious when people fight and/or are violent for the sake of their religion.

If they went to render aid, medical and secular social relief they would have been very misguided. That they went, instead, to try to convert muslems in Afghanistan in the middle of the war conditions in place and the heightened religious tensions shows that they were obtuse and culturally insensitive. This sort of arrogant missionary zeal that disregards the local customs, culture and conditions and figures that God will protect them while they are doing His work is the sort of blundering, zealous foolishness that makes it hard to feel sorry for missionaries in trouble.

I hope that they are released safely. But such suicidal behavior prevents me from thinking of them as poor oppressed innocents.

The media does cover them. I've seen the story covered repeatedly including negotiations and release of some hostages. It is not a story on top of everyone's mind because of the difference between the sympathy people feel toward a hapless family caught in a flood while trying to escape vs. surfers who sought out the flood and are now at risk from it.

Think of the news coverage on the Simpsons when innocent Timmy was trapped in a well vs. when people found out it was just Bart who got in trouble doing things everyone knew he shouldn't have been doing in the first place.

Basically, its because they were a bunch of idiots that went into the middle of the war zone intending to try and spread their religious beliefs. Everybody knows that Taliban are violent and fanatical, its only common sense that any group going into Afghanistan at this time to do christian missionary work is putting themselves in extreme danger.

There is a picture that has been reprinted in newspapers many times showing them all grouped around a sign saying that it is dangerous to travel in that area. The fools are all smiling as if the sign was some sort of joke that didn't apply to them. Their actions constitute foolishness taken to perverse levels.

What they did is stupid. What happened to them is predictable. They were obviously worthless fools and morons. Their deaths are no loss to the world and no one should endanger themselves trying to save them.

Because that news doesn't sell.

Remember the Va. Tech shootings? The kid spent two hours wiring his intentions to some news service (I've forgotten now which one), but it went unreported until AFTER the corpses were cooling.
Somebody PLANNING a murder is not interesting enough to sell dish soap. Somebody actually SHOOTING a bunch of students is NEWS....

It really is that simple.

Well, let's see . . . You know about it. I know about it. I'll bet that lots of other people know about it. So, I guess that it must have gotten some coverage.

Is it possible that the people who were kidnapped were trying to convert muslims to christianity? From what I've heard, that's a no-no in muslim countries. Just one more reason to keep religion and government separate, everywhere in the world.

Because the media only informs us of what they think we find interesting. They're not telling us about the Koreans because they're Korean, not American.

It's horrible to consider eh, but the bible says it'll happen. It's the church's job to pray for them and draw attention to the cause... Not the injustice of what occured, but that they were willing to knowingly risk themselves (and die!) for the cause of Christ and his people. If we look at it from the bible's perspective, it's not injust at all: it's the kind of thing you sign up for when you decide to follow Jesus! Their incredible committment to the cause is what we should be drawing attention to. And rejoice for em - They're with God.
