Neither one is good for your health, depending on how much you consume Caffeine and sodas are a stimulant, which can cause heart palpitations. Although, research suggests that coffee is beneficial to our health but, this means a minimal consumption. If you are looking to obtain energy prior to an exercise program, carbs and protein are recommended. Carbs, in moderation, can supply energy. Protein is needed to help restore or enhance tissue/muscle capacity. So, concentrate more on these nutrients. I hope this helps.

coffee is much better - it alerts you, has been proven to make workouts more productive if drunk wright before working out, prevents Alzheimer's disease etc. One cup has about 175mg of caffeine and its not recommended to consume more than 600mg a day.
Stay away from soda.

Coffee most def. It has antioxidants. Just don't use loads of refined sugar and milk. I prefer raw honey and a bit of vanilla soy milk:) Soda is terrible for you.
