When people tell you that you can create your own meaning, they are actually telling you how to survive each day despite the terrible pointlessness of life. There are psychological tricks:
1) Keep busy as in "live life to the fullest", etc. This gives no time for thought.
2) Keep focused on little happy feelings as in "Swill stroganoff"
3) Do something praiseworthy so you can build up your self image as in "You control your own destiny and no one has a say otherwise". Anything that sounds heroic will boost your ego.
But if we allow that God might exist, then that changes everything:

It seems to me there are two choices, reject God and live an independent but utterly pointless existence or seek God despite not knowing for sure whether God exists.

In my opinion it is making the correct choices. Each person is presented with many choices every single day! Some are easy, like what to have for breakfast.. Some are very difficult. We all no when we've made the wrong choice but only after the fact because we say.. 'I wish I didn't do that.' We know when we made the right choice because everything goes well and feels good.. So how do we make the right choice all the time?? consider carefully and make your own decissions. Dont be swayed by what others think is best for you.. Only YOU know what is best for you!! If we make mistakes, which we do because we are not perfect, the key is to learn from it and DO NOT make that same choice again. When human kind can learn to do this, we will all live happy lives and have no urge to hurt others.. The meaning of life, to me, is to find a way to live live in harmony with eachother..

The meaning of Eternal Life is to know that you are a Divinely Beloved son of God in Jesus and that you have living faith that you will eventually be all perfect in personality, spirit, soul, mind and body forms when you are a Resident on infinite Paradise and eternally doing God's will in Glorious services and adventures !

There is no meaning to life really. To me the meaning of life is to do what you want with it.
You control your own destiny and no one has a say otherwise. Yes, there are laws in society but even those you can choose to not follow.
I think about the vastness of the universe and I realize my life is meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Nothing I can do will alter the Universe with any significance. That idea is pretty depressing. So for me I like to think my meaning of life is just that around me.
My meaning of life is to impact those around me in a positive way. I want to know as much as I can about as much as I can. To be open minded and know I was the one that made my life what it is.

Actually, i don't think we have been created for a purpose. All animals(including humans) were born from a single-cell organism. And that organism evolved in the many species that are today. We do not mean anything, we have no purpose, we were not made for improving the world we all live in, actually we are making it worse. I think the meaning of life is to live our lives, reproduce, and insure the future of the human kind. (in a cruel way to say it :live while you still can)

I think the meaning of life is to grow as much as you can spiritually. You can do this my many ways, jus be sure to your path and stick to it. If you die and you think you need to finish something that you need to do, I think you can go back to Earth.
