i have breast cancer and am being tested for possible cancer in the liver, i am wanting to take a leave of absence from school because of all the appointments and soon the treatment, they say i have to put in for leave in the first or tenth week of this phase, otherwise if i miss 8 days straight i get dropped or if i at least go once a week for the rest of my phase, which might be impossible, i could fail but could resume when all my treatment is done, i dont understand why i couldnt take the leave now because this is a severe illness

Where are you going to school? Tell them your LIFE is more important and they shouldn't be so inconsiderate as to not let you take a leave of absence. I see a law suit in your future. seriously talk to a lawyer.

You may be able to schedule all the tests to work with your school schedule. I felt like I was running around a lot for another diagnostic test in the month between when I was diagnosed and my surgery but I was able to still work about 30 hours a week. I was off for about 5 days after I had a partial and then took off a day or two each time I had chemo for a few months. I did take off two months later in the chemo cycle and worked throughout the time I had radiation.

Breast cancer sucks, but a lot of people find they can be fairly productive while going through treatment.

However, in light of your studies, it may well be worth starting this phase over when your treatment is complete due to the nausea and exhaustion. Also, if you don't need chemo (my sister didn't) it may work out ok to stay in class.

I am sorry to hear of your battle with cancer, may you be blessed with good heatlh soon. As far as school I would take it directly to the Administrator and ask about a possible early leave because of the treatment you are about to encounter.
Good Luck please keep me posted on your progress I am very much concerned...Gypsy

Many universities and colleges have restrictions on when you can defer courses (take leave).

Usually these rules are able to be waived in the case of illness.

You need to speak to someone in authority and explain your circumstances. A letter from your Dr would help.

well, i don't know the rules for such a thing, but i am very very sorry for to hear this, and i would say fight it.

if your school cant be understanding to what is going on with you, then take it up as high as it goes, screw the bureaucracy and the order of things...take it to the big wigs.

you can definitely take this leave, and it is completely wrong for them to try to make you do those things

i am very sorry to hear this is going on. whatever you do, i hope it works out well for you.
