For about 4 years now, I have been having very vivid, romantic dreams about a man that I had a crush on since the time I was 5 years old (It's bene 17 years). We were next door neighbors, and very good friends growing up. I haven't seen him in 5 years, but I still keep in touch with his parents, so I know what's going on with him. The problem is, I've been happily married for 3 years, but every night, I have very vivid dreams of dating my friend, being in a passionate relationship with him, marrying him. And I've NEVER had one single dream about my husband. I admit, there have been some regrets on my part in the past for not pursuing a relationship with this man, but, like I've said...I'm very happily married. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

You have a dream life and a real life. Keep them separate. Your vows were to your husband, for better or worse, and his to you. That said, the dream man represents your father substitute. He is the forbidden man, just as your father was. To marry your dream man would be taboo on the level of marrying your father, hence the attraction. Of course, these repressed wishes only reveal themselves in dreams, and as long as they remain in dreams, they are safe.

Just remember your subconscious or as some people say your "spirit" is interpretive of your everday experiences present and past. What I mean is this, this guy that you keep having dreams about represents an aspect which you greatly desired to see in a man. So, your subconscious will sometimes reflect that aspect through this person. It does not mean you are in love with them. But there was something about them that was impressed upon you. That's why you keep having dreams about him. Whether it was his kindness, gentleness, or being passionate. Your subconscious interprets a kind man and so on in the form of this guy. Okay, I hope this helps.

This dream is simply your mind processing these regrets. You say that you are happily married now, so why do you continue to have regrets about the relationship? It could be that you just want to start being freinds again. I would do something soon with your husband about these regrets before they destroy the relationship. Believe me, he knows that something is not right. Tell him now b4 its too late, who knows, your husband and the neighbor could become good friends also.

I disagree that the man represents your father; that's psychobabble and Freud has been proven wrong repeatedly. But I like the first part of that answerer's interpretation, that you should keep your dream life and real life separate. Personally--I would just enjoy the dreams and not let them interfere with my relationship with my husband. If you're happy with your husband, then I wouldn't worry too much.

well you can tell there are a lot of regrets but don't let it get to you if you love your husband and are truly happily married to him then there shouldn't be a thought of what if unless you truly feel that this other person is really the one. don't worry the dreams will probably fade away if you stop thinkin about him and focus more on your husband.

HHHmmmm. your dream probably means that you feel like you could've had more passion if you had been with the other guy. Maybe you should ask your husband (without telling him about the dreams) what you fantasize about (in your dreams) and maybe try them out with your husband. That might change your dreams from your friend to your husband. Hope this helps!

According to Dreamcrowd:

To see a lover in your dream, symbolizes acceptance, self-worth, and acknowledgement of your true inner value. It may also indicate integration of masculine and feminine traits into yourself. You are feeling complete or whole. To dream of an old or former lover, signifies unfinished/unresolved issues related to that specific relationship. Your current relationship may be awakening some of those same issues.
