No, you don't have to be a genius. Those guys become engineers. You DO have to be able to memorize things well, interact well with people, and work hard.
If you're top 10%, then you won't have any trouble. You DO have to make it through organic chemistry, which involves a lot of memorization. You're not going to use much of that in medical school or as a doctor, but learning how to assimilate a lot of information in a short period of time will serve you well.
Some of the real brainiacs don't make great doctors because they have no people skills.
If you work hard, you'll make it. Best of luck to you.

If you are determined you can do it. Naturally bright kids often make good professionals, but hard work goes a long way even if you aren't in the top 5%. But no, you don't need to be a genius.
Organic chemistry is mostly memory, its not as hard as everyone says. Keep in mind being a doctor for real requires a human touch as well as a good mind. Stick to your guns if that is what you really want.

Actually, most geniuses in medicine do best in research. Many lack the interpersonal skills that make a good doctor. There are some wonderful exceptions.
Keep studying.
Some schools require an essay on the application. Work on that spelling, too. Good luck!

You do not have to be a genius to study medicine. But to get into a medical school is hard because there are only few seats and lots of applications.
Only the top 1 or 2 from each high school can make it into a medical school.

If you're going into your senior year, those are borderline numbers, but if you work hard, you can make it. Attention to detail, like not putting an "o" in genius, would be a good place to start! Medical school is full of bright people, but geniuses are still uncommon even at that level.

I am really curious about this also as a high school junior.
I believe doctor is my destined career, I'm not a doctor YET, I am not a genius either.
But,
I want to help people,
So I say:
"I will be one, because I work hard to fulfill my wish, I will be one because there is no hardness that can stop me from working my way to be one."
Would you have the faith to make things happen?

I agree with the majority. If you want it bad enough and are willing to work your butt off, you can do it. You can take some classes twice, as well, if you need to (no more than that most places I believe) and there are tutors and help books (O-Chem for Dummies!). There are alot of things out there to help- go for it!

Do not listen to Edgar Greenberg. I had two friends in high school who were marginal students and they both became physicians. It depends on how bad you want it. If you want it bad enough you will find a way. Study hard and surround yourself with high achieving friends and you can do it. Good luck.

People who are "off the charts" smart don't make that great of doctors because they have no people skills and seem to lack common sense.
