I haven't worked for 8 years whilst my kids were young. Who do I use as my referees as most of the people I worked for have retired/moved on. I do volunteer at a school so I have 1 name from that-who could the other be?

Recruiters always want to know they can call your last employer. You should definitely put that employer on ur CV even if they've moved on or retired but also put a note to that effect on the CV and give a 3rd referee just in case, someone who would know you well and is trustworthy. Best of lluck with the job hunting :o)

Havent worked for 8 years!!! You have worked bloody hard if you have raised kids and dont forget that when completing your CV. Employers like it because it is a job and it shows committment.

As for a ref.......maybe your landlord if you rent? do you know any other professional or self employed person running their own business?...or a company secretary/director?.....think hard there is always someone

I would still list someone from your prior occupation. They may not call them, but they will want to make sure they can if they want to.
relatives and friends don't hold too much water, since anyone can find someone to say something nice about them.
In my experience, we have hired several people who were out for a while with family and they came back to work better than ever after years off.
Good luck to you!
