If we, as a nation of lawful and just people, want to reduce the number of people coming into the U.S. to work and send money home to their families. Our government need to start helping our closest neighboring countries to strengthen their government with fair elections and their economies with more commerce. With all the money the U.S. is spending to free Iraq, which doesn't want to help itself, we could promote business relations and jobs in these countries so the people there will not be forced to break immigration laws to feed themselves.

Thats funny "dirty martini". I don't remember Iraq's people asking us to come in and change things. And if they wanted to help themselves so much, why are we still there? If the poor Mexicans and Hondurans etc. should have to change their country themselves to make it better, why shouldn't have the Iraqis been told the same. The majority rules, right??They could've helped themselves.
The truth is it's not that simple.
Mexico is fairly stable true, but the poor stay poor and the wealthy stay wealthy. Thats why our textile industry has our underwear made there or in China for cheap labor. But thats ok.

In the end we will not free Iraq, we'll just set up another authoritarian regime, the only difference is this one will be pro-U.S. A true democracy will never work over there due to tribal/ethnic divisions, they've been killing each other for thousands of years and don't trust one another enough to truly share power equally, look what happened in Lebanon. Plus Mexico isn't going to make it easier for oil corporations to make money, Iraq is.

Our neighbors to the south need to start helping themselves. The government, whether it is Vincente Fox, or their new President Calderon, etc. is corrupt and inept. They keep the people down, while the government and others keep the wealth and mismanage the resources. The conditions in Mexico would be significantly better if the Mexican government functioned properly.

We do help our neighbors to the south the problem is that most of the money that we give them goes in to the pockets of the crooked politicians. The illegals are sending plenty of American dollars back across the border so I think that we are helping them. If they want free elections then they should get back across the border and start working to clean up their government. If all the thousands of illegals in the USA really wanted this they might make it happen.

Yes I complete agree with you that we indeed should help our closest southern neighbour .We need to help them strenghten their democracy/government by getting them to declare lobbying and lobbists a criminal activity therebye giving back to WE,THE PEOPLE ,their government and country.
Most urgent ,is we need to help them have fairer and un-corrupted elections. On the Federal level we will try and convince them that they are old enogh to be trusted with being allowed to elect their own President instead of some silly appointed Electoral College.
We must teach them that to be trully democratic, there must be PROPORTIONATE REPRESENTATION .This will mean that their Senate will have to be abolished and Senators be voted for on a proportional bases un-like now where there are two Senators for less than one million Vermonters while there are only two for over 30 MILLION Californians.
We also must explain to them that they should never ,ever allow the Supreme Court to elect their President for that isn't the DEMOCRATIC thing to do.
WE also must explain to them that as the richest country in the world and the fact that they wander the face of this earth pontificating in such a holier-than-thou sanctimonious manner about how CHRISTIAN they are they need to ensure all of their citizens have heath care coverage as so many other less rich countries have that DO NOT go around shooting their big mouths off about how CHRISTIAN they are.
Lastly ,we must tell them that it is not a nice thing to do to have their President going around waging illegal wars of choice based upon a pack of filthy lies that result in the slaughter of over 400,000 innocent civilians.
Like during the slave era our southern neighbour's country, real Christians devised the Underground Railway to save the Blacks from many American and bring them to Canada where they found real Christian charity and safety.
It appears we will now have to start another underground railway to save those Mexicans from the same fate the Blacks met in America.

We have to help Iraq first because we blew it up so bad and the Iraqi government doesn't have the money or resources to fix it. Also it's an international law that countries follow. We had to fix the axis countries in WWII.(Just an example)

US needs to learn to take care of it's own. Our own economy is being destroyed by civil war that we should have no part in, illegal immigrants from ANY country that misuse our legal system, our health care system and take jobs away from US citizens. If we really wanted to help our country we would have a lot stricter immigration laws that would punish anyone from trying to live and work in our country. If they want to live and work here they should go through the proper channels and get admitted legally!! Get a life, you can't be an American citizen. Where is your pride of your country?

I do not support the war, but if any money is available it should go to those who pay the taxes in the USA. We have bridges and roads that need to be repaired. I also believe that Mexico is a very rich country both in resources and capital, and those citizens need to demand those in that country address the needs and stop exporting your poverty and then asking for aid

I'm sure that if Iraq ever manages to pull itself up to the level of security, economic prosperity, and stability of a Mexico or Brazil we'd breath a sigh of relief and stop worrying about it so much.
