Your realization about God is not wrong... above 99% people world over leave their search for God midway! That is how God Almighty destined it. In a century or so only one or two people realize god in their lifetime... that too amongst 6500 million people existing on Mother Earth. Gaining enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) is not that easy!
God Almighty destined gaining of enlightenment by human beings in 1.1 million manifestations (an earthly life cycle of 12.1 million years)! In the last about 150 years only two persons gained enlightenment on Mother Earth... they were Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana. Reaching the stage of enlightenment is the end goal of every life!
Every soul atman starts its cosmic journey by manifesting the form of an amoeba (single cell formation)... the first manifestation in the cosmic life cycle! It further evolves into multi-cell formation, then insect life, plant life, animal life and finally the form of a human being! It is only in the human form the soul atman within gains liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
Most spiritual seekers get lost in absence of a spiritual master (spiritual guru)... the guidance of whom is absolutely essential on the spiritual path! Gautama Buddha gained enlightenment in the later years of his life. Remaining within the community... Gautama Buddha could not gain enlightenment.
Nor living in the jungles (deep dense forests) could Gautama Buddha reach the stage of enlightenment. He was so perplexed that he advocated following the middle path. The moment Gautama Buddha gained enlightenment... he left for the kingdom of God (aka Baikuntha in Hinduism) by gaining salvation (moksha)!
Reaching the stage of enlightenment is not a destination... it is a journey... a cosmic journey that needs completion at the earliest! From one manifestation to another... the journey of life for the soul atman continues uninterrupted! On the earthly domain... the family weeps after the death of the body! In the spiritual domain... it is simply changing of garment by the soul atman within!
The best way to find God is gaining the wisdom contained in Bhagavad Gita... the sacred doctrine of Hinduism given to mankind by Lord Krishna. Everything worth knowing on the spiritual path is contained in the Sacred Bhagavad Gita. The knower of Bhagavad Gita becomes the knower of all. One finally gains omniscience having learnt the essence of Bhagavad Gita!
The search for God is best followed the Neti way (not this, not this)... the path followed and advocated by Maharishi Ramana. The path of Neti is a sure shot method for realizing God in this very life. Neti is best practiced in the Shavasana way of yoga. When everything in the cosmos gets eliminated... it is God Almighty we come across on one-to-one basis.
Two of my relatives went ahead in search of God. They left midway! To fathom the depth of God Almighty is the end crux of human life! Difficult to obtain but not impossible! Only very serious seekers of spirituality realize the absolute reality... the real truth of us! We are not a body but the soul atman within... realizing our real inner self is realizing God Almighty! I gave my life to Christ at a very young age. I believe I was either 7 or 8. I joined church and was baptized with my cousins the same year. I am now 26 and I used to think I found God but he definitely found me not in sin because your sins according to the Bible don't count against you until you turn 12 but still just as I was. Meaning a little girl who wanted to know God better. The journey for some people takes a really long time. Sometimes people even give up on God but he never gives up on them. As long as your heart is open he will contact you. You don't even have to worry.

Nope, I didn't find it a waste of time.
I don't know what to believe, following one religion automatically condemns other religions. Believing there's no God is also a belief since nobody has proof God doesn't exists.
But... many many wise lessons can be found in all theories and by searching "the" answer I learned a lot about myself, other people and other cultures. So, for me, it definitely wasn't a waste of time although I still don't know what to believe.
I'm satisfied with my ignorance, it helps me to stay open minded to other people and their beliefs. I also keep studying all kinds of religions/theories, even though I may never find the absolute answer.

Your time spent searching the truth were not wasted because everything is already set to happen in God's perfect time. You are destined to experience a lot of things before realizing that you now have God in you. However, things would also depend on how you allow God to touch and move in your life. Before you were born, God already knew how and when you will be His. Trust only Him and you'll be alright. His plans are perfect! God bless you more!

Ecclesiastes 9:17 says. The Quiet words of the wise are to be heeded, than the shouts of a ruler of fools'
Eccl.9 : 18Wisdom is better than weapons of war.But one sinner destroys much good..Now that is written in the good book.
Don't get God confused with an old man.it is a power as in the wind.It is all around us. I am a fool it took me 40 years to find it,but so glad I found him. That" wind" is the holy spirit

Your time was certainly not wasted, God heard you. Maybe He didn't give u the answer u hoped, but He heard u. Just because you don't have a miracle were u hear Him or See Him, doesn't mean He didn't hear you. It's really all a matter of faith. We pray to God to thank Him, and to b helped. God's ways are not our ways, and we as humans must except this. i know it can b hard. But keep praying. Keep praying that He will give u clear answers and mayb not in the way u hoped....but the Lord answers the faithful.

I did not know that you had to look for God. I am a bit confused as to which god you were looking for.
The God of Abraham Issac and Jacob? (The Creator of the universe.) The Christian God who's son is Jesus Christ?
If you were looking for anyone else, they did not exist. Perhaps that is why you did not find them?
If you were looking for the Christian God, He was only a prayer away.
You say you wasted your time. It sounds like you are still looking.
He is only a prayer away.

so one thing you must have realised that God is not a thing tobe found out.. God is neither a person
Now so much experience gained , you need to put some more time to just find yourself.. by sitting queit for one hour with closed eye, statue like in one posture.. in close room without disturbance.
Let you feel the breathe on your nostril .. This you can not doubt . it is there.. but you need to feel it .. and see how it calms you down. and
You start with five minutes first.. this will give you confidence.. slowly increase to 10-15-20 and come to one hour
this is very patience efforts so you must have courage to sacrifice the time and energy in your quest to find your self.. and once you get your self , automatically God will come knocking at your door asking for your permission , may I come in..

It just took you that long to find out.
I take it you were looking for the "God" of the monotheistic religions, the one with form (aged, white beard and all) who creates and destroys as his fancy takes him, prefering a race over the others, fashioning some pots for noble (lucky guys!) and others for menial use (poor lot!), again, as his fancy takes him. SUCH a 'God' never existed - when some one wrote 'God is dead' it was with reference to an altogeher different matter -the sick social condition he saw all around.
Now your search for GOD begins. If you would allow me to give you one advice, just one advice, it is this: look only inward.

My dear, you do not need to find God. He resides inside of you. You carry Him everywhere you go. if you think you can find him in Los Angeles or New York or even in the Church, then you lie.
what you need do is to understand the fact that He lives in you. then you can talk to Him anytime, laugh when he tells you something, follow His directives and make Him your very best friend. Jabez discovered that and his whole life changed. Enoch was described as God's Friend because he walked with God. David is the Apple of God's eyes because he knows how to worship him and talk to Him like a friend.
trying to find God is useless because HE LIVES RIGHT INSIDE OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
