If you're not in college anymore - then yeah, it would be fine. I think it's when your in college (and maybe a couple of years afterward for some reason) that it's not ethical. I'd say, go for it.

If you are still taking a class from him, yes it would. If he no longer has anything to do with your college education, class work, etc. then yes it would be ok.
