I know you are very open minded and you are on my fan list. You know what I do for a living, and I know I am good at what I do as I have been doing it for 27 years with an excellent track record. There are fraudelent phoney psychics but there are also some excellent ones. People shouldnt judge so quickly unless they are sure of something. It makes me feel much like the innocent people that were sacrificed in the Salem witch hunt. That was in 1600 something and things havent changed all that much for some has it.

A prophet is a person selected by God to speak on God's behalf. The prophet often has a message for those in charge about what they're doing wrong and how to stop it. If there are any predictions involved, they usually describe what life will be like for everyone if the bad behavior is stopped and/or if it isn't. A psychic supposedly uses his/her own powers to make near-future and personal predictions for individual clients, regardless of their behavior. In short, if someone comes to you, reluctantly, and gives you bad news, it's probably a prophet. If you go to them and pay for good news, it's probably a psychic.

The difference between psychics and biblical prophets is that psychics speak in the here and now about future events, and their predictions can be either validated or invalidated by us, according to whether they actually happen or not.
The problem with biblical prophets is that many of the prophesies were written after events already happened. I know this will outrage many people reading this, but do some research. Find out who wrote Ezekiel, for example, and when.

Prophets "speak for God" back in the Old Testament because they had no Holy Spirit to guide them; as from the New Testament they "edify, comfort, exhort" (which means to encourage and motivate) by being moved by the gifting of the Holy Spirit of God. God lives WITHIN His people now and not only speaks words from His heart through His prophetic ministers, but by all sorts of teachers and pastors and church leaders.
Psychics have NOT surrendered their gifting under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and therefore ALL their "knowings" are subject to be contaminated and twisted and just are from their "soul" which is what psychic means: "of the soul": their mind, will and emotions.
If it's not from God, it is dangerous! It is false information and useless as being from God! It can be used in "human affairs" at times, but has nothing to do with God. It's like a dog finding a trail and sniffing it out! The greatest problem is that there may be a doorway opened to a "familiar spirit". Christians know what I am referring to; an ungodly attachment.

God places His Spirit on Kings, Priests, and Prophets today as he has done in OT times and it is His Spirit of truth within them but as for Psychics, they derive their knowledge from spirits of the dead but are demons in disguise and they are blinded of this fact and this is why consulting psychics or even applying their information is an abomination before Almighty God and is judged by him. Those who did this practice was put to death because of it's connection to demons. If you have contacted a Psychic, more than likely you have contacted demons and they do have an agenda besides deception and that is to guide people to hell..

"If a psychic tries to tell the future, how is that different than the prophets of old?"
Well, the source may be different. Since I have experienced both sides, I know how ruinous that the one side can be. Not the 'telling' in itself, but what they do with you in the meantime. It's been my experience that they like harming the sons of God, His human creations; living manifestations of His image.
So the path they lead you to is destructive, while leading you with little carrots like a horse not seeing the cliff ahead.
"Both got information..
...the same way."
No. They did not. Those that trust God have peace with Him. Those that got their message from elsewhere do things like scream in the middle of the night, and buck like broncos, and have spirits that truly hate you in and around. They affect you negatively.
"How can you tell one was getting information from devils/demons and another's was from God?"
By discernment. What's the message? Is it the way to life, or is it leading to destruction. Even while Jeremiah prophesied destruction, there was a message of hope. A message that would promise salvation which is peace and health, with prosperity.
So the message is peace with God, and edifying to those who trust God. Not the doubt and trivial 'tellings' which come with demons.
"Or, are both from God, or both from demons?"
They can both be from God. But the one's who trust in other things are getting a message that might be to their own demise. I think that I know God pretty good, He might do that. He raises some up for destruction.
"It seems to me you can't have it both ways and judge one from the other without having experienced both. Agree?"
Yes, you can't have it both ways. I agree!

I could not know how a psychic comes to know things. I actually know a psychic who has no idea where he gets his info. It just comes to him.
There are some who make it up for money. There are some who claim to know where all the information comes from, but I don't think anyone truly knows and understands the inner workings of this natural gift.

Again, a question based on an untruth. You say "both got information the same way".......
NO THEY DID NOT.
Prophets were chosen by God and received their information from God.
Psychics can tell you with deadly accuracy what happened in the past and/or is happening in the present but CANNOT predict anything with 100% accuracy what will happen in the future. WHY?
Because demons know everything about the present and past, and they can make educated guesses about the future based on the present circumstances, human propensity, etc....
On the other hand, there are God's prophecies, for example those concerning Jesus:
"Jesus...fulfilled over three hundred propecies (spoken by different voices over 500 years), including twenty-nine major prophecies fulfilled on a single day - the day he died.'' Since many of these prophecies were to do with the place and manner of his death, and even the place of his birth, he could hardly have deliberately set out to fulfil them!
Just suppose the chance of each one of those prophecies being fulfilled in isolation was a very generous 50%. Then the chance of three hundred such prophecies all being fulfilled is the same as that of three hundred consecutive coin-tosses all coming up tails: one in 2037035976334486086268445688409378161051468393665936250636140449354381299763336706183397376 - that is, about one in two million million million million million million million million million million million million million million million. These are by no means exact numbers, as any mathematician who knows anything about probability theory will tell you; but it's a starting point for thinking about these issues."

Considering that neither psychics nor the prophets of old do any better than just an educated guess anyway, does it really matter?
