I learned it at school, it was not too easy, but doable. The problem is the grammar, which is difficult, because all the little rules have exceptions that have exceptions in turn.

Most French are nice to you, when an American takes the effort to talk their language. However, they will immediately assume that you talk it perfectly and start to talk fast.

That is absolutely untrue, french people are more then willing to help anyone who tries to speak french.

It's not too hard to learn french, it's just that the french language has a totally different root then the english one, latin and germanic. So the rules and the verbs tenses are a bit more difficult, but with work you can learn it.

I'm french-canadian so I know what I'm talking about.

It depends on your proficiency .in your native tongue. I had fun in french the beginning is the fundamentals any way. "OH Champes Aleysey" a song we would sing I am not sure about the spelling . Good poem "IL's Pleur de mon couer" thats more at the end of french two any way. Really have put effort into the translating. Its easier than Hebrew a lot of their verbs are regulaire and easy to conjugate. My 2nd year teacher always screames "Fermez-les bouche!" Shut your faces, mouths take Greek , Latin, or Spanish depends on your style of retaining information about a language related to yours. Have Fun

It is determined by what you're evaluating to. Among the fundamental Western languages, French probably one of the vital toughest. If you are speaking approximately World Languages, French could be one of the vital simplest for the reason that a minimum of it is Indo-European, like English. Very tough languages comprise Hungarian, Chinese, and Eskimo.

The only problem with learning French, is that native French speakers are highly INTOLERANT of anyone who can't speak their precious language perfectly. As a result, you will not be able to use and practice French because the frenchies will slap you in the face unless you speak it properly.
You can try to practice it to your French poodle i guess... but even he might pee on your shoes.
