Oh, Mr. Magnum; Would you believe it but only to-day did I learn of the euphemism 'Oscar.' Now from you I get 'going commando.' I do, to, and I never knew it had a verbal description. Well, like it or not, good sir, you need to wear some briefs. You are leaving yourself open for some smutty remarks from young boys if you don't and you won't like the innuendos that might earn you. Get something which offers you a comfortable support pouch and you won't know the difference. Here in Brisbane we have ManFit brand. They are very good. You would not even realise you were wearing them. If you cannot get those then you will find something just as good. But ask. You don't have to describe yourself. No luck at one store only means you will find them at the next. Incidentally, Oscar will really appreciate your heartfelt consideration and maybe even more so if you get a codpiece to go with that from the athletics store.

Who cares? At least you wont have to do as much laundry.

Maybe make them more appealing by getting him some with cool Transformer cartoons or something.

Maybe he's growing fast that they've gotten too small and uncomfortable. That used to happen when I was little. Or maybe you should try a different style. They make boxer briefs and boxers for little kids now too.

I gotta laugh at this. My son is the same way sometimes. He will have days that he doesn't want to wear underware. I just leave him alone about it because he knows his daddy doesn't wear them (he overheard me making a comment about it). It is actually normal from what the Dr told me for them to watch to explore different feelings down there and part of that is for their private parts to rub against their pants. I know this sounds horrible but it is normal development according to the Dr's I have asked. I finally talked my son into trying boxer briefs and he loves them so now he wears those but I still find that some days he doesn't have underware in the dirty clothes but since it isn't something that is going to hurt him I just let it go.

When you play sports, you should have some support, in case you get hit in the groin by a ball, or accidentally get kicked or whatever. Generally it's a good idea to wear an athletic supporter when playing sports, that's why it's called "athletic."

I say pick your battles. When my son was 4 he wore button-down shirts, dress pants and a tie every day. Just make sure he gets fresh pants every day. He'll either grow out of it on his own or he'll notice other kids wearing them.

If you do want him to wear undies, let him help you shop and get some with pictures he likes on them. Also, make them seem really important, like "Big Kid Pants."...Kids fall for that hook, line, and sinker usually.

It may just be he doesn't like the feel of underwear. My son wore boxer briefs from the moment he began wearing undies. It may just be he doesn't like his available undies.

Again, pick your battles. Would you rather fight him on a small issue like wearing undies or something bigger like running away from you in public?

Good luck!

A lot of kids go through this - they like to be free !!!!!!!!!!!
why not take him with you so he can pick out some pants/boxers himself (ok they may not be the ones you like but he may wear them if he chose them).
Has he got a dad around, maybe he could watch his dad get dressed and get some pant similar to his dads and they can get dressed together (cause little boys like to be like daddy !).
Just an idea

It's fine, my son is the same way. When he comes home he likes to take off his clothes & put on pjs w/ no underwear, or if we have to run to the store & he needs to get dressed, he'll just put on shorts w/ no underwear. I think it's common for children around 4.
