You could ask your accountant to contact them and explain the change in figures.

An online calculator is given in the first link below but I believe it only uses the current rates.

Previous year's rates are on HMRC's website at the second link. They also have copies of the manuals the Revenue staff use but they are a devil of a job to navigate.

Tax credits that you receive in 2007 are based on your income for 2006. If your accountant got your accounts wrong for 2006 then just phone up the tax credits office tell them the amount of income that you received from self employment for 2006 and they will recalculate what you should have received. If you were underpaid tax credits for 2006 they will reimberse you within 2 weeks (usually). If you were overpaid tax credits for 2006 then they will want the money that you have been overpaid back but they will spread the repayments over 2007 and you should still receive some tax credits. (they won't just stop your payments - just spread it over the year). I don't think they do face to face interviews but you should call and ask just in case. The tax credits website no longer lets you do calculations online. Hope this helps.

hi good luck on this one because not even the tax credits office will have a clue - you cant ever get to talk 2 someone in person and no one will give you a ball park figure - they're basically a bunch of muppets and if you get overpaid even if its their mistake they will say that u should have known u were getting 2 much and claw it back at a ridiculous amount. i know quite a few people on it and no 2 people get the same amount and nearly all of them owe due 2 overpayments

If you are not satisfied with your tax preparers work, get another guy to file an amended return for you. IRS is not too helpful.
