I think every artist's biggest challenge is to have something meaningful to say / photograph / dance / sculpt / etc. and to do it faithfully without any thought to whether you might get recorded / published / famous / the back of a McD's Happy Meal. You pray that what you have to say is something that people want to hear and maybe haven't heard or seen before ( or maybe saw a long time ago and are glad to see again) and are willing to compensate you for it.

Self-discipline. Making myself continue to practice regularly, even when there is not a performance in the near future.
