We are moving into a house and the owners painted the walls a pretty rust color, but I'm not sure what colors go with it.

i like greens (forest green or something like that) yellows, and blue (denium) look at the way a victorian home is painted and find colors that way. or go to home depot or lowes and find a paint swatch with the same color and it will usually have complimenting colors with it.

I would say brown greens and golds would be very pretty with rust. I am not interior decorator but I would think you should try to stay away from reds purples, etc because it may clash with the specfic tone of rust you have in your home.

You could do a monochromatic scheme (all tones of the same color) ..so have the ''rust'' be your darkest orange in the room and have other tones of orange and/or red also apparent....OR...use just neutrals...different shades of brown, and possibly a little hunter green.

in my view, i'd flow with eco-friendly or tourquoise. Then i'd get some aspects for throw pillows, upholstery or valances to hold all of them jointly. in case you flow with the eco-friendly, some actual flowers around continuously provides a calming effect. do no longer exchange the carpet if it is not any longer yours, regardless of in case you have the money. i'd truly choose to have brown carpet. Mine is very just about white, and exhibits the traffice varieties too lots.

yellows and greens go great with rust... maybe even try pulling colors from one of your favorite items that will be in the same space (vase, artwork, planter, etc)

I'd try a rustic green, beige, - definitely earthy. Stay away from pastels and jewel tones and you will be alright. Keep with muted tones
