No.

The sinner has to be penitent (sorry for his sin).

The Catholic Church believes that "Only God forgives sin."

When a penitent person asks God for forgiveness, his (or her) sins are immediately forgiven.

Catholics also believe that when someone sins they not only hurt their relationship with God, they also injure the entire church, the body of Christ.

Jesus said, "I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:19)

And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,"Receive the holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained." (Luke 20:22-23)

Oral confessing of sins is recommended over and over in both the Old and New Testaments:
+ James 5:16
+ Acts 19:18
+ Matthew 3:5-6
+ Mark 1:5
+ 1 Timothy 6:12
+ 1 John 1:9
+ Numbers 5:6-7
+ Nehemiah 9:2
+ Sirach 4:26

The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation with a priest ordained in the name of Jesus Christ not only reconciles the sinner to God but with the entire church, including you and me.

Remember all sacraments are encounters with God. This sacrament is a healing encounter between God and the penitent.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 1422 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt2sect2chpt2.htm

With love in Christ.

Whether the man goes to heaven or not cannot be determined from what little information we have here.

In GENERAL terms, a person who confesses a sin without feeling any regret over that sin isn't making what we Catholics call "a good confession," so he's not actually absolved for that sin just by saying the words and not feeling sorry about it.

However, there is always hope and the Holy Spirit is always guiding us to pure hearts, so it's possible that though the man did not regret it at the time of this particular confession, he may honestly regret it later and make a good confession and a true penance afterwards.

We Catholics leave the decision about who goes to heaven and who does not to God. We don't walk around saying, "He's going...he's not...she's going..." etc. Many Catholics have died after committing very serious sins, and I have no doubt that some number of them most certainly did go to heaven, though the grace of Purgatory (which is our name for the process of being "washed whiter than snow" and made ready for "the wedding feast of the Lamb" by the blood of Christ).

One should not take the risk of bearing a mortal sin to the grave, however -- the sooner one makes a good confession, the better.

Since the hypothetical person did not feel remorse and (apparently) did not repent, his request for forgiveness was not valid and it is not granted (the job of the priest is to discern this, however). Some may even consider him further guilty of offering a false confession.

Since rape is a mortal sin, he is deprived of Heaven so long as he continues in this vein.

If he was not sorry for his sin, then he would not be forgiven. From the Catholic Encyclopedia:

"Without sorrow for sin there is no forgiveness. Hence the Council of Trent (Sess. XIV, c. 4): "Contrition, which holds the first place among the acts of the penitent, is sorrow of heart and detestation for sin committed, with the resolve to sin no more". The Council (ibid.)"

They must have remorse and sorrow, which is why the priest asks them to pray an Act of Contrition to show they are sorry for their sin(s) but even then it is ultimately God Who knows. When the individual dies and stands before God, if they had no sorrow and did no penance and did not repent then they will have to answer for God. And as the CE says, without sorrow there is no forgiveness.

In answer to your question, they would not be forgiven if they had no remorse or sorrow or rejection of their sin.

No. When confessing one sins..that is called "Repenting" and to "Repent" means you have to absolutely realise what you did was a mistake and you are truly sorry and you want to be forgiven. If the sinner only confesses to save face..or believes that the Lord won't see through there deceit..then that person will be unpleasantly surprised come his judgement day.. =Pp

No, if a person does not regret the sin he or she has committed, he or she will not be forgiven. If the sin is serious enough to be mortal (rape fits this category), his or her salvation is very much in question.

I am not a practicing Catholic, but was raised Catholic. What I know is this: god will know if you are truly sorry. To make penance, after confession, you must truly be sorry for it to "sount" as penance. Without really feeling sorry, God knows you are a sham (lying) and doesn't forgive. You need to truly feel penitent about what you have done to be forgiven.

According to a Catholic interpretation of the Bible the sinner must truly regret what he had done.

It isn't that instant, he would need to be truly sorry for what he did and repent and change his life and live it for God then if he changed his life, I think he would know an answer
nothing is ever set in stone where your going, God will make a just decision according to where his heart truly lies

There's only one person who can forgive a rapist and that is his victim.
As far as worrying about going to heaven goes, he should be concerned about going to prison first. Heaven, or hell, can wait.
