When you think that some day you'll die and there will be nothing else for you, no Heaven, no Hell, just death, doesn't it make you think about a possible after life or maybe a God?

Atheists believe there is no god period. Your question doesn't make sense.

Yes when i think about death and dying i just don't believe we go anywhere except six feet under or to the bottom of the sea to be eaten by crabs. Thus providing nutrients for life. I believe after being close to death a couple times already that it's going to sleep and not waking up. That's it that's all. There was no light no nothing but when i heard a voice calling me from far far away and that voice started to get closer to the point where i could make out what they were saying. It was "Randy if you can hear me squeeze my hand" and when i could they said "he's back,he's back" and after awhile i suddenly opened my eyes and i had tubes sticking out of everywhere. It seems i was in a coma for three days.

No, just because a made up belief makes you happy doesn't make it true. Concentrate on now. But now that I think about it, I think I'll brainwash myself until I believe that after I die I go to a place that is a combination of Candyland and the Playboy Mansion after death.

Sometimes it might, but usually, if there is a Heaven, and I see some of the people that are supposedly GOING to Heaven..I'm glad I'd go to Hell in the Christian faith...but being alive for however many years that will live...I think that I'd like not being alive anymore, whether after or in the here and now. Hope I helped out some.

Not really. I mean, I'm not going to say that the idea of a Heaven doesn't sound nice, but it's wishful thinking only. I just don't think that there's going to be anything there. But that's OK...it's not like we'll be aware that there's nothing. Sure, there's no pleasure in it, but there's no pain or discomfort of any sort, either. I guess there's a sort of peace in that.

nope. what i find to be the negative side to an 'after-life' or 'reincarnation', or even 'god', is that people overlook the life they're living right now. if they have high hopes of dying and going to heaven, and being forgived for their sins, they'll just fly right through the life they have right now. they wouldn't enjoy it as much as we atheists do. atheists don't have to live up to someone and worship them everyday, thats time well wasted to us. the time religious people spend 'praying' and going to church, we do things that are really worth while, we live our life to the fullest. and as for an 'after-life', that's just something people want to look forward to when they die because they don't want to face the fact that they're never going to live again. so we as atheists do everything we can in the life we have now, because there's no knowing if we truly even have an afterlife to make up for all the mistakes and wasted time we spent.

Sure. And when I think about snakes, I think it's possible there may be dragons and gorgons and chimera.

Are you asserting the ability to imagine a thing makes the existence of a thing true...? Because I can imagine a pride of anthropomorphic leather-wearing lions in my backyard who wish to date me in very exotic ways, but I've yet to get hit up by a huge two legged cat.

I have considered the possibility. It seems so unlikely. It is like being afraid of the thing my imagination places at the bottom of the cellar stairs.

I am happy to go on with life, excepting the unpleasant truths about it.

Not really. It helps me understand how valuable the life I have here is, and how important it is for me to do my best to help others enjoy their life.

Religion on the other hand convinces people that this life doesn't really matter and that they must impart their religious belief and rule on others in order to be kind. It is actually very cruel when you consider that you may be taking away a person's only shot at living, but reducing their outlook of life on earth.

You see, I have trouble with the concept of heaven and hell.
From what I understand, hell is eternity with the most horrible evil thing imaginable.

Well my hell would be to spend eternity with a god fearing fundy trying to convert me. If this was the case then, the god fearing fundy would have to be in hell also.

Who then would be in heaven?

Not at all... I know death is the end and that doesn't bother me. I don't need something like a promised afterlife to take my focus away from living the best, happiest life I can with the one lifetime I have.
