Yes it does. How can you protect your country if you have enemies inside? We have a right to know who is entering and leaving our country.I am an American citizen and every ti me I leave the US they know what I am up to and when I am coming back.

I completely agree and its because the U.S. was at peace for a while and welcomed foreigners that the defense wasn't very high.Yet, since 9/11 and the increase in terrorism and drug trafficking the U.S. should protect its borders more, but its more of a problem with Mexico because they aren't as developed as Canada or as peaceful domestically. But if the U.S. wants to be at peace internationally again it has to strengthen it patriotism, protect its borders and people , and solve some of its issues with in the country like abortion and same sex marriage.

It is a shame that we might have to go that far. What I don't understand is why the government doesn't pay for more border patrol personnel.
I'd really hate to see a fence, though. It would be like seeing the Berlin wall erected all over again, except this time by the US.

Wow you have solved the problem...now for the next step.
Finding legal Americans to construct the border with decent pay....without overtaxing ..
Rembember no stealing these jobs from Americans.

Also, the borders should be protected from all sides, because you never know where the terrorists will come from.

Reading Sublimes answer made me think I was on Mars. The United States is certainly not a Global Country and the planet is not. It will never be and anyone who thinks it is does not have a clue about how the countries of the world operate.
Some of these answers are beyond belief. So if someone robs your bank you should just sit back and take it because if you complain they will just come back and rob you again. That logic defies all known real and artificial intelligence.

Yes. Where is our national guard and our border patrol and why isn't our Government cracking down hard on every employer who hires, harbors and helps illegal immigrants and why doesn't the President send in the National Guard to put down the insurrection in sanctuary cities?

Yes, from the ground, the air, the water, etc. National Security is just a cloud of smoke. They are doing very little to stop the threats. It's sad and wrong that congress ignores our demands for enforcement.

The whole fence idea: here is what I don't get: So, we put a fence on this border. Ok. So, they will start flying into Canada and crossing illegally that way (remember- coyotes charge 3k & up,, so a ticket to Canada isn't that much). Ok, so, then we have to put a fence on that border. So they start coming by boats into harbors, so, are we going to fence our beaches also? I understand this is an extreme example, but, where there is a will, there is a way. There will be tunnels dug underneath the fence.......

Without real borders you don't have a nation. Anybody who wants it can have it.

you have such a simple mind. a "fence" isnt going to do s***. like the guy above me said, its all about globalization. you cant stop people from coming in or going out. A fence is as ridiculous as the Great wall of China. what ever happened to it? oh yea, they tore it down.
