Some are. If your label mentions "meat by products" or "meat meal", then it could contain anything from ground snake or rat to euthanized dogs, cats and horses. If it identifies the source, such as lamb, chicken or beef, it cannot contain other meat sources unless they too are identified.

I can't say if it's true or not, but I've yet to find any proof of it. It started, because pentobarbital was found in some dog food samples. Pentobarbital is used in animal euthanasia. I know testing was done to determine if any dog and cat DNA was present, but it wasn't...at least at those times. I'll try to find a link.

ETA: http://www.critterchat.net/pentobarbital.htm
The article states it's probably from "euthanized, rendered cattle or even horses."

Actually a study found no cat or dog DNA in over 100 brands of dog food - It isn't made of prime rib and may contain parts not eaten in the US by people (such as the head meet ears tails ect...) and yes horses do go to dog food, but not dogs any more than babies go in baby food....

No, but it's made out of 'mechanically recovered meat' which is the remains that are blasted off an animal carcass after the edible stuff has been stripped off. It comes from cows, pigs etc.

They also add cereal 'n' stuff like that to bulk it up. I don't know about the chemicals....probably no more than they put in human food to be honest.....preservatives 'n' stuff.

It's not worth worrying about really....pets have to eat something! Always try to buy decent quality brands.....premium brands if you can afford it.

.ever hear of "meat by product"?

"The definition of a meat by-product is anything that comes from the slaughter of a meat animal"

.if you look on the back on your dog food.. the first 3 ingredients are the main ingredients. if one of them is meat by product its a big fat NO!!!!!!. please be a responsible dog owner and feed your dog food foods like Solid Gold or Merrick or Evangers.

Yes this is true, and you can research it on google.

Meat by products, meat , etc....

Look up rendering plants and dog food.

Good luck.
